If I buy 1 Bitcoin right now at $6500 and it then goes to $7000 and I sell it do I make $500 profit or is there a hook I'm not seeing here? This seems like the easiest way to earn money ever. Bitcoin goes up and down hundreds of $ each day if you just guess right like half the time you'll make a fortune in no time...

you buy bitcoin at 6.5k your cost basis is -6.5k sell bitcoin to usd at 7k so you profit 500 on coinbase, then transfer that 7k to your bank account you get taxed again. so you're getting taxed with 7.5k gains when you're only profiting 500 if you're a burger
