3 men stay in a hotel.
The Hotel manager charges them $15.
The three men pay $5 each.

The hotel manager later realizes the room is actually $10, so he calls the bellboy and hand him $5 to return to the gentlemen in their room.

The men decide they cant split $5 easily, so take a dollar each and tip the bellboy $2.

the mistake you are making is as follows:
You substract the 1 dollar from the 5 they paid initially to end up with 4 dollar per person. 4*3=12 +2 dollar tip = 14.
This obviously is fucking retarded and wrong.

They paid 15
5 back
15-5=10
1 dollar to each and 2 to the bellboy. Making it not 4 dollar pp but 4.66666666 dollar (as they still lost out on 12 dollars total including the tip)

To anyone that did not figure this out on his own: please do yourself a favour and do not try to outsmart anyone. Even though this might be difficult to accept you are not amongst the smartest on the planet.
