GALT is my precious babby child that I will continue to shill until the end of time, a biotech company with very promising science making treatments for NASH and melanoma

i bought into NLST at .298 looking to make a quick buck and then leave, but I didn't sell when it reached its peak, so I'm waiting for it to get up to a dollar before I sell

VTGN is another biotech company with promising science making drugs for depression (targeting the same neurological pathway as ketamine, which has been shown to be very effective in treating severe depression) and social anxiety

WTR is one of a few water companies (along with AWK and CWCO) that I'm planning on adding to my portfolio

let's say you need at minimum 3k a month forever to neet
Let's say you can expect 3.6% div yield of a $10 stock to be conservative. That's $0.36 a year/share or $0.03/month/share. You'd need 100k shares to receive 3k a month-1 million dollars invested. You'd need to double your money 8 times to net over a million after capital gains tax (note this doesn't include inflation cuz fuck off I'm already doing enough for you). To double your money 8 times in 24 years you need an annual rate of return of 24%-to do it in 32 years you need 18% and for 40 years you need 14.5% which may be doable if you're extremely lucky. Long story short you desperately need more capital.
Step 1
Get a job and max out a RothIRA in the s&p500
Step 2
Give up on ever being a neet
Step 3
Live within your means but comfortably and retire in a secure position where you can afford a vacation and increasing medical expenses

I mean you can speculate and play the stock market like forex and how strong vs weak dollar impacts metals and commodities. Learn how to use search engines, see if the companies you like are public, and you've got chart readiing skills, but what you have to understand is that there are larger factors at play compared to the pump and dumps of crypto hype moon and doom shit. Just fucking trade paper for a few months and sit on your shekels, if you're so fucking new.

The doses of ketamine used to treat depression hardly have side effects. While I think a similar drug will be successful just because retards (physicians) will like the marketing that it's not actually ketamine, it really isn't a good line of research for the development of a new antidepressant. In the end a shot of ketamine will be cheaper and more effective. Plus, most people are satisfied enough with the placebo they get from SSRI's.

Yes, but that is for anesthetic and recreational doses. Even then, unless you have a pre existing condition related to those things, they're unlikely. Ketamine is unironically a very safe drug when administered properly.

For depression in particular or in general? For depression, there is really no good avenue right now. Ketamine's going to be more effective than any analogs, and even then antidepressants are mostly unnecessary beyond severe depression. Exercise and a healthy social life are enough for mild to moderate depression. I think moclobemide is a good drug, but it's not available in the US, and people are too fat and lacking in appetitive self control these days to handle a (reversible) MAOI. An alternative to both NMDA antagonists and MAOI's would be a mirtazapine analog without the hunger inducing/lack of satiation side effect. I'm not entirely convinced by agomelatine and related drugs, but at least they fill a new niche.

In general and related to investing, I think promentis pharma (and the people behind it) has some promising work with drugs intended to treat schizophrenia, but they're not public yet. I'm carefully watching the NIHAAA clinical trials on a GHSR1a inverse agonist for the treatment of alcoholism, patented by pfizer, I believe. This is a long time away though, they're still recruiting participants. I think it could be effective with minimal side effects in a rimonabant sort of a way, in which it'll moon before people admit that it was a questionable avenue of research. However, in the case it doesn't cause memory issues, anxiety, depression, or gastrointestinal and metabolic problems, I could see it being fairly effective for not just alcoholism, but obesity, as a conjunct treatment for diabetes (namely with exendin-4 and other glp1 agonists), and other substance abuse disorders (particularly psychostimulants).

I should note that I am still invested in vistagen, but do not see their product having long term success.

I don't, I've only been trading for a year. I do not have enough experience in markets to know for sure, and I can be entirely wrong. I sell during responses to particular clinical trials and conference presentations etc... instead of price targets. I expect it to get through clinical trials just fine, and perhaps even get to the market. I just don't think there is a scientific reason for it to get significant marketshare, but pharma might pull it off.

I apologize for getting autistic about the drug, as someone who's primarily done work related to behavioral disorders, I strongly dislike the "just swallow a pill and fix it" attitude modern medicine has and misconceptions about illicit drugs because the DEA accomplishes absolutely nothing other than stifling research and charging scientists $600-$1k for a gram of cocaine.

am i overreacting? im kinda paranoid..
>try to sign up for robinhood
>at the question "are you related to someone from a broker firm", i say yes, because a family member has a job with one
>robinhood says i have to get a letter of approval
>i call the family member. they say i didnt have to say i am related to someone who works at a broker, because they dont even work with the stock/broker section. they work at a totally different department. they wouldnt even have access to the letter, thats how far removed they are from the broker section
>later on i look at a few more options, decide to not use robinhood and just use another broker
>robinhood account is not activated, still stuck at "you must submit 407 letter to open account" stage
I want to be 100% honest and ethical with my trading. I was just trying to be honest, but i feel like I didnt have to say that, and I made a mistake. But Im worried in a few months/years this could put me under some kind of suspicion? Or am I just being paranoid? i feel dumb for saying i was related to someone, for working at a broker, when they dont even work in the brokerage department of the company. you think i can just keep trading like normal, with my new broker, or will this not-yet-activated robinhood account come back to bite me and raise questions? i really just want to be as honest as possible.

That is true, but behavioral interventions are just as effective, and in some cases more effective (just not covered by health insurance or as convenient as a pill, unfortunately). Disappointing how this probably won't change in the long term.

One last thing I should mention as a potential drug for depression are AMPA/kainate agonists, though I don't think anyone is investigating them for MDD, and the side effect risks are a bit higher than most other avenues.

Yeah (ID difference, if there is one is due to no longer phone-posting).

So, there are two sorts of (behavioral) neuroscience graduate programs. Those administered by med schools and those administered by psych departments. In general I think psych department ones produce better scientists due to less of a focus on courses and the requirement to apply to a particular PI, but that's my personal opinion. GPA is also less relevant for psych dept programs as long as it's >3.0.

For psych dept programs, research is the most important aspect, and knowing research techniques. I am always amazed when I see grad students who can't do things as simple as stereotaxic surgeries. Top PI's will expect their graduate to be able to walk in and do basic surgeries (stereotaxic procedures/ovariectomies etc...) without guidance beyond where the scalpel is, or in my case, how to use an isofluorane tank, since my only prior experience was ketamine/xylazine. In general the ranking of importance is lab techniques = recommendation letters = grant writing experience> diversity (mostly because it can lead to other sources of funding)/social capability (they and their lab have to like you, after all you're applying to work with them specifically)/teaching experience >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GPA/GRE

Neuroscience programs tend to be the reverse, GPA/GRE/school name are the most important with rec letters up there. They tend to filter more by quantitative measures. There is also very little flexibility in being able to get that one PI to like you because they're typically rotations based programs in huge departments.

Most people in neuroscience programs tend to go straight out of undergrad, most people in psych dept programs typically have a year or two of post-bac experience.

What sort of research techniques do you use in your current lab? If you want to improve your chances, things to consider would be applying to random grants/fellowships, TA courses, and...

applying to an NIH 2-year postbac upon graduation (or at another school or work as a lab manager for a lab at your school or another--the NIH position is good for networking though), if you're at a large school, the impression you make on graduate students and post docs has a major influence on the rec letters faculty will write for you. If you are at a small school, your PI should know you fairly well towards the end. One thing to note about grades is that you want them to generally be better in your latter 2 years of undergrad than your first two. Try to get your name on an SfN poster, definitely do an undergraduate thesis, try to present it at the main meeting of SfN, or at least the FUN (faculty for undergraduate neuroscience) session.

Another thing to watch out for is that a lot of programs, especially those in med schools, only fund you for a year or two, and then it's up to you and your PI to fund yourself. Psych depts tend to provide funding for 5 years, though you will still want to and be expected to apply for grants like the NSF GRF and an NIH F31, both for your CV and extra $$. I'm not sure how to get grant writing experience in general, perhaps you could ask a graduate student to review theirs and ask about the process. I got lucky in a way. I went to an (undergrad only) small liberal arts college, had a great long term relationship with my PI, and by the time I left had written an NIH R15 grant for him.

>>11081576
You have time, but get involved soon! Especially if you're at a large research institution, I was blown away by having to waste my time with a month of "here's how to hold a rat" and "here's how to work with a virus safely" courses I had to take before being able to do research. Time off is good, it's ideal if you jump to an academic position as a postbac (a lab manager if you want a more relaxed experience, a researcher if you want a "better" looking option).

If you want to take a year or two off not doing anything science related, that's fine, at least 1 year is, I'm not sure about 2, and each successive year can make it harder to get a position.

I should also clarify at my tiny SLAC I didn't have to do shit to work with animals/viruses other than demonstrate to the faculty member/his current lab students that I was indeed not a retard and would be fine.

The other reason doing research in your postbac years is ideal is going to Society for Neuroscience, SfN, is prime networking environment and a great way to introduce yourself to current graduate students/faculty in programs you are interested in. Just getting on the good side of a single grad student or PI can turn the tables for you.

And don't fret too much if the lab you're in isn't doing work you're interested in at that time, it's still good experience at your age. I went from doing metabolism/appetitive motivation->stress/anxiety-like behavior->alcohol dependence and glucose homeostasis->general reward and motivation-> esoteric subfield of reward and motivation research and supervising work on depression, cocaine and amphetamine dependence, and memory on the way.

And MAKE SURE you like the lab you work in as a postbac, you ALWAYS want a recommendation letter from the lab you were last in/currently in. I've had friends have to do more post-bacs and more post-docs than necessary due to this.

Also try to get your name on something or be able to demonstrate you are good at histologies. People like it when you can make pretty pictures, and it looks really good, because making pretty science pictures is hard, a pain in the ass, and the only people who "like" it are the people not doing it (the PI) and the people looking at it (reviewers) and weirdo developmental neuroscientists/biologists.

Should clarify that you shouldn't worry about the type of work as a post-bac, you can narrow down for grad school. And things to look for when identifying potential PI's/programs:

Do the graduates go on in academia? If so, do they get good positions?
Does the PI publish frequently?
Do people actually cite the PI's publications?
How much grant money does the PI have? What sort of grants does the PI get? Are they tenured?

and also health/dental a lot of grad programs don't give free dental/have garbo health insurance, these ironically tend to be programs through med schools

also try to apply to a rat lab because rats are better for behavioral research, cute, and fun to play with, mice are little shits whose only purpose in life is to try and bite you until you scruff them

>The company did release new lines of gaming-console headsets, and key title Fortnite Battle Royale published a new "season" to keep gamers interested. But neither of these events made much of a difference to Turtle Beach's stock chart. Best of luck, I tend to lurk smg if you ever have any other questions.

One thing to also note for identifying PI's is if their grad students/post docs also get grants. And the NIH 2 year post bac really is great, I did not do it (my undergrad PI had extra funding for me to stay with him for a year), but had a lot of friends who did, and you're allowed to go to SfN when it's in DC (every 4 years, was in DC last year and will be again in 2021--it's in san diego every other year and rotates between chicago and DC in off years) regardless of presenting or anything (they'll also pay for your membership, I think). Schools also like to have travel grants, they like having undergrads writing about going to conferences etc... for receiving the grant because it's a good way to show off to investors/board of directors etc...

A financial crisis happens when trust is lost and money stops flowing in the economy. A crisis happens when people suddenly discover a gigantic asset mispricing that no smart guys on Wall Street have seen.

I don't think the next crisis will be purely financial, it will come from a political cause and it might be the EU implosion (which will rekt the EUR bond prices)

risks are similar as well, w R/Ss very common and other types of toxic dilution such as convertible notes and 3a(10) type dilution. so the risk is usually total loss, while the reward, especially from sub-penny level can be many hundreds of % in a day or two.

but if you do your homework you can find things where dilution is coming to an end, or theres a catalyst waiting to make it break out.

one OTC meme i can recommend rn is DRUS
they sell drones and drone accessories to the govt/police/coast guard etc. its had a rough existence in general, and the last few months have seen HEAVY dilution, but the latest 8k has indicated that the dilution is over for the next couple months, and at the current price of half a penny and obviously increasing revs/margins, its primed to do a rather large run at some point. it also reports annual earnings at the end of sept so theres another possible catalyst.

just dont go too heavy on it as its the OTC and no one knows where this is going desu. as always, do your fucking homework, as nothing gets tossed into the depths of the OTC w out having an extremely sordid past. the trick is to catch em before they manage to turn themselves around. always be early, never be late, and dollar cost averaging is your friend

Thanks man. Appreciate the response. So I shouldn't just dump 25-30k so I could day trade without restrictions? Also I'm from europoor so unfortunately no robinhood for me.

Also I forgot to ask. S&P500 looks like it's peaking. Should I hold my money and wait for a crash and then invest or just invest now and don't think about it?

>> No.11086376

>>11086241
Fastest after inversion was 6 months, I'll stick to that, it's still very conservative. Ans you can watch 3/6/12 monthly EMAs for crossing, also LT bond etfs over S&P500 ratio is a good metric to keep in mind to see when the market will shift into recession mode. That's just my opinion.

>> No.11086460

>>11086241
Also that would mean that some market actors didn't shift away from ST bonds or that LT bonds are underbought even though recession is beginning which is unlikely. OFC I might be wrong, but even hedge find managers like ray dalio say that recession is a couple of years away. Whether that's a lie or not is hard to tell though.

I recommend to you to follow investors.com (IBD - investors business daily), they have a great mobile app. They have a great mix of fundamental and technical analysis, all of it, including the IBD itself founded by the famous William O'Neil trader and investor.
Simply, in a bull market you want to be long on the fundamentally strongest growth stocks, IBD maintains lists of those and then you do your technical analysis on these preselected stocks and flip among them.
here, study this book carefully: https://libgen.pw/download/book/5a1f047f3a044650f5fdc2fb
