There are three doors, behind one of which there is a car. You pick a door, the host who knows where the car is opens a different door showing you there is nothing behind it. Now the hosts asks you if you'd like to choose the other unopened door.

Should you do it?

makes no difference, 50/50 chance
stupid question

>> No.10791659

Yes because if you didn't pick right the first time which has probability 2/3, the remaining door will be the one with the car

This exact thing is from that shitty but watchable counting cards movie

You worded the question wrong, and yes we've all heard it before

>> No.10791674

yes because the host opening a nothing door means that your door has more of a chance of being a nothing door because if he is left with 2 doors to choose from to make that choice then he must take out a nothing door making it significantly in your advantage to switch every time because you might have a nothing door.

Exactly right. Most peoples brains don't instinctively think this way, that there was "a 2/3 chance I chose incorrectly" they only think on the front end that they had a 1/3 chance and then it became a 1/2 chance and so it doesn't matter. Typical 90-110 IQ people will not understand.

the car could be behind the door you first picked.

staying with your first pick is a 1/3 chance, switching to the other door gives you a 1/2 chance.

>>10791754
1/3 chance you picked right the first time, if you switch then no car
2/3 chance you picked wrong the first time, if you switch then yes car

So your chances if you switch are 2/3

Tell him you aren't a whore and won't play his games for money. Then spit in his face.
