Okay, let's do it one after the other.

First, clear all your loans.
It's a stay poor magnet.

Then, save/invest money.
You need to have something for "tomorrow".

Now, food.
You need to have something for today.

Then, utilities.
Internet and a way to go to work is mostly needed nowadays. Take a job NEAR your home, you want to shrink commute time to the minimum if you want to keep your sanity and money (30mins or less is your target).

Last, if there is money left, fun.

I basically use an envelope system I track on an Excel:

20% of my income goes into a savings account. I am building up my emergency fund, and the rest for traveling.

Priority goes to rent, utilities, groceries. I give myself a small allowance for eating out and alcohol.

I buy used clothing, cook in bulk, hypermile (method of driving), and other shit to save schekles

i posted about it on /alck/ once. it's your standard tfw (literally) no friends, bordering on hikikomori (I get to work from home a fair amount - my record is 3 weeks without leaving), depression, tfw will never accomplish anything that persists beyond my lifetime, etc. And it's not like I didn't try to make friends or talk to people either, I tried really hard all 4 years of college and a year here in NY but eventually people would just stop responding to me. It's kind of ironic for a programmer but ever since senior year of college whenever I talk to someone about personal stuff (non-academic/non-work) I start panicking and feeling a sense of impending doom. It's like what you might feel if you're in a car and you see a truck coming at you at 80 mph without any way to get out of the way. To some extent I think I'm happier like this. Socializing is really a huge drain on my mental energy and I feel terrible for weeks whenever I get rejected (not in a romantic sense, but as in a didn't-get-invited-to-x-event). But you're right, I should at least go out by myself once in a while.
