I don't know why you're so hung up on save the world. Some of the best multiplayer games of all time are mods or variations of less popular games. You already described the reasoning for having to farm resources, otherwise people could just build cover forever without penalty. fortnite is a fort building horde defence game.

The shooting is secondary and building is cool but nondynamic to the environment while just being used soley for putting up a quick wall designed to build a house but its used to block a burst of bullets instead for some reason..

The only good thing Ive seen in fortnite is the big TEAM BR where one of the teams work together to build a actual big fort-base in the middle to protect and fight out the battle at the end of ur BR game. The rocket surfing is also a nice thing that was found

but in the end fortnite was supposed to be a cashgrab joke on PUBG just like radical hieghts, the culling 2 etc but fortnite epic games has competent devs so the game actually worked and then just became popular because its free, no pc reqs , pubg people just jumped over lmao.

I think it depends a lot on what you like. I like the sneaking/more focus on strategic positioning/far greater tension (only game which has ever made me feel genuine adrenaline), but I understand how people can like the quick reactions/more unique options of fortnite.
