I thought a lot about that, and I think the reasons are:
1. The silliest reason: it's cheap. I think people like having a "full coin". There is some satisfaction in having one Litecoin, compared to having 0.01 btc. Maybe you are okay with fractions, but normies prefer whole numbers.
2. It's on coinbase. Normies love coinbase. They go there and buy some whole number of a coin.
3. It has a pretty good mobile wallet.
4. It's perceived to be a more tasteful variation of btc. It's like btc, but without all the drugs and all the underbelly of the internet. It's the silver to bitcons gold, as they say - but if you are a normie and you really care about what you are keeping your savings in, not only about how well it holds value, then litecoin is kind of the gold to bitcoin's cocaine. (In the normal person's eye. I study them closely.)
