Is the beer industry in a bubble right now? For the past few years we've heard about the massive rise in craft breweries and beer sales (including the opening of craft beer bars, brewpubs, etc). Could this industry be in a huge bubble? I don't mean to suggest that craft beer is a "fad", but the market and public might have overestimated the staying power of this desire for craft beer.

What do you all think? What is the most efficient way to profit off of this? Seems to me like in the next recession, small luxuries like craft beer purchases would be hit especially hard.

I call bullshit. I frequent a lot of breweries and I haven't seen any decline whatsoever. Beer in MA is booming.

next step is craft bourbon. bubble or not, it has permanently changed the landscape for the better. If we get so terribly oversaturated with companies that nobody is really turning good profit, it'll work itself out and only the best of each type/style will survive. We already kind of see that.

if the bubble pops I hope it takes out all those shitty sour beer breweries

if we are in beer bubble, wines been in a bubble for 5K years

yes theres too much beer. The next evolution is hard spirits. More sophisticated and is easily locally sourced. Not to mention beer raises estrogen levels resulting in man boobs.

Fucking millennials have to ruin everything.

I don't think there's going to be a crash but you'd be retarded to try to get in the game now. Maybe there will be a crash if they start selling xanax over the counter.

actually i live in san diego, and the bubble has popped here. if you google and look at the news, there was a shit load of breweries openeing up in 2015 and 2016, some bought for close to a billion dollars, and now many breweries are going bankrupt and closing up shop, or laying off people.

the reason: peoples growing obsession with being healthy. going to the gym, eating right, losing weight, yoga and all that shit. its caused people to shy away from beer, especially women. thats why sales are starting to decline

Going out drinking is a good way to socialize.

It’s a possibility. I knew different people that dream of making their own brand and are actively pursuing that goal. That being said all the beer gardens and breweries in my city are the popular hangouts for millenials.
