That's if you want to pay the devs in BTC as an early investor to develop the platform.

You get a rebate in Skycoin though, so when someone pays that 1btc, they're charged 0.1btc for the miner (parts/packaging/shipping) and then they get 0.9btc back in sky.

This is just early investor hardware though, they're making unified board miners and other variants that will be cheaper.

Alternatively, there's also DIY miners, which is what I built. I spent about $200 on four nodes and I'm at around $160 for the first month of testnet rewards. Second month will get me to breakeven and we probably have six more months of testnet left, so a possible 5X isn't bad.

seems legit can you give any advice?

are those pis?

Mining sky?

What are you running on the boards?

>> No.10485214

>>10485143
Yeah, those are pis running Skywire on testnet. You just need to get your node public keys whitelisted.

software download:

>> No.10485236

>>10485143
>advice?
If you decide to get in, be prepared to dedicate yourself to a lot of reading. There's a lot of moving pieces even just for Skywire and that's just a piece of the project. Patience is good too since they need time to get whitelisting in place.

Yeah, these are just Raspberry Pi 3's that I had lying around from other projects. These aren't as powerful as the official boards for the project though, Orange Pis. There's like 12+ supported board brands to choose from.

Right now everything is in testnet so I'm just getting paid in sky for uptime, making my hardware available to devs and other users for whatever purpose they might have. Once mainnet is released, it will switch to metered use and I'll get paid in coinhours, which is Skycoin's inflationary subcurrency.

Raspbian Lite on the boards.

Are you streetshitting me sir? First of all your numbers are way too low, right now it's 48 per month for the absolute shittest-tier.
Second, even with your bullshit figures, that would be a 6 month ROI.
In what universe do you think that's bad for a mining rig? Are you a literal child?

skyminer rewards are going to be cut by 75% for the month of july, monkey

if you bought a skyminer with an $11k bitcoin like the batch 1 people did, you will probably never make a full ROI

You're conflating values and concepts.

It's not a 75% cut but they are adjusting as appropriate.

>> No.10485760

>>10485612
Miner rewards aren't being cut, they're being pooled. You get a % of the reward pool instead of a flat rate. This really only affects DIY miners as official miners are making a fuckton and most are over ROI ALREADY.
It's interesting that you know enough about the project that you know there is a rewards change, but you're "fuzzy" on the numbers.
Nice reddit spacing.

At some point Sky will use Sopine A64 modules in future Skyminers. Even if it's similar to Raspberry Pi 3, but with better graphics, Pine64 clusterboard & Spine A64 modules will be used for the new boards but that's going to happen only if they don't decide to develop their own custom board.

15000k SKY / 500 official miners = 30 SKY/miner. and there are probably more than 500 miners out there at this point, so expect less than 30

might actually work. past attempts of creating a meshnet failed because there were no incentives and just some lab geeks were doing it for the sake of anarchy. The beautiful part of this project is that each part of the ecosystem can run independently from one another. Skywire is about the internet itself and the blockchain is a different story, KittyCash addresses another segment etc.

Apologies, you're right. The official number cited in the most recent update is 600, so it's even lower now, ~25 for official.

But there's still plenty of abstraction. We don't know how long the testnet will go on for, nor do we know what the price will do. All of these concerns wash away once the price gets back up to $15+

>> No.10486956

Testnet will end in a couple if months, 2019 is the start of the mainnet
Till then the coin will go back to $30 at least
