My one annoyance with him is that he clearly exaggerates things all the fucking time as if they're not impressive enough on their own. Like on his latest Rogan appearance he talked about how he's on this retarded diet now which works really well for him, but it amplifies the negative effects when he does eat something he can't handle (plausible so far) and then claims he drank some cider or some shit and didn't sleep at all for 25 days. Rogan gave him several chances to back out and say he maybe slept a little but no, Dr. Peterson had zero seconds of sleep for 25 days straight. Who fucking believes that? And of course his trademark "I thought about this for a really long time. I thought about this for years and years".

I forgot about his “I’ve thought about this for a long time” - another seriously annoying trademark of his. It’s an appeal to authority but the way he gets so sanctimonious about it - that anyone would dare question someone who has “thought about this a lot” like he has - really grates with me. Like his opponents can’t also claim they’ve thought about it a lot as well.

The thing is I do agree with him more than I disagree. But he is just so smug and so self righteous and so sanctimonious and takes himself so seriously that I start to hate him. This is amplified further by the way he’s ALWAYS popping up on my YouTube recommended videos with some click bait title and a thumbnail of him pontificating.

The more I think about this the more I love this post. As a 26yo boomer I can really relate to this - as I’m sure many people on this board can.

JRE and Jordan Peterson follow such a predictable trajectory: they start off interesting and somewhat countercultual, you agree with a lot of the content and can relate to it. But over time it gets old and you after listening to so much content you start to pick holes in it. The content becomes more popular and mainstream until you start seeing it on places like Facebook, at which point the content you once enjoyed becomes a meme that you actively mock.

The 30 year old boomer liking these things perfectly illustrates how outdated and uncool JRE and JP now are. There is dramatic because you can see the 30yo boomers lack of self awareness in thinking he is on the cutting edge when really he’s ever so slightly behind the times
