Is it normal to not remember things from 8+ years ago

No. I think you have dementia.

>> No.10272196

reminds me of the time my uncle apologized for molesting me, then I told him I didn't remember anything like that, and he realized it was the other nephew

yeah.

can you remember what you had for dinner exactly one week ago?

human memory evolved to remember *important* things, anon, things typically tied to strong emotions (especially extreme pain or fear) -- if you're like most people, including myself, the quotidian life is fairly dull and not memorable.

i will not remember today eight years from now.

I remember too much. It causes me to have an ending desire for revenge against the people who have wronged me.

I am and I have a similar problem to OP. Will some memories come back when I'm not depressed?

No, depression actively damages the brain/memory, it’s a depressing thought

tfw unironically dealing with this right now

the old me vowed that i would get revenge on her for what she did
then i turned my life around, got fit and made a fuck ton of money and started feeling really good

but some days i think back to what happened, and the promise i made myself
i remember it all so fucking vividly.

With the right retrieval cues and triggers you might. Depression is toxic to your episodic memory, and ability to form new memories.

Maybe this is why people in the olden days kept journals. I recently tried to piece together all the memories I had since starting college in 2007. My memory is very sporadic, but I was lucky enough to have been befriended by a bunch of normies. Otherwise, I would've spent 8 years of my life sitting in the library.
