Have we passed the point of no return? All political sensibility has been thrown out the window, along with the erosion in our Keynesian arsenal to offset effects of the upcoming recession.

What the fuck is Trump doing to us?

we passed the point of no return a very very long time ago. nothing within Trump's tenure compares to

1. The Federal Reserve Act
2. The creation of the FDIC as a temporary emergency measure (which became a permanent taxpayer funded put option on depositor liquidity for the private banking industry)
3. Temporary suspension of dollar convertibility to gold in 1973 (made permanent)
4. Implicit bailouts post 2008, and near zero rates for 10+ years, negative in some countries. US Government picking winners and losers. Essentially a blank check for the housing debt market, health insurance market, education market distorting prices.

I could go on. The point is, Trump has nothing to do with it. The majority of well-off adults who do not work in high finance still think the dollar is backed by gold, only know about 2 buildings falling on 9/11 and don't ask any questions, and blame everything on Trump because he isn't 100% scripted like every other politician before him during their lifetimes.

Yeah, he seems like a very competent person. I'm sure we're in good hands. He has this innate grasp of the real intricacies of an argument, the subtle nuances that underlie complex systems, and a way of articulating these highly complex situations in terms that are digestible but also really considered and concise. He's a wonderful orator and a truly inspirational person. A real walking example of what happens when prodigious brainpower, a powerful moral sense and good intentions get put in the drivers seat.

The American political system (beyond being good with the Bill of Rights) is actually pretty shit... an American president is essentially a monarch, they can do anything as long as they invoke "national security" as a rationale and there won't be any real push back; you've been approaching a constitutional crises for a long time now.

All those were thought out policies (even though flawed), they weren't purely political moves. Trade policy and monetary/banking policy are apples and oranges.

durrr, you're not going to abolish credit... there's the consistent lolbertarian option of just letting private actors bare all the risk involved but history shows widespread systematic fraud always spreads throughout the entire system and you're left with the small people ruined while the bad actors get off hardly hurt

Yes, but this problem isnt exclusive to liberterianism. The fact that money is created with interest creates an infinite feedback loop which has made it so that our national debts are unpayable. No country ISNT going to borrow money to fight a war for its survival. Imagine an aids patient who is being charged absurd amounts for healthcare but also has access to unlimited credit. Obviously theyll borrow infinitely for their own survival, regardless of future interest payments.

It's rather obvious it meets the criterion discribed by Jonh Nash in Ideal Money, creating an ideal schelling point for all mega billionaires worldwide which couldn't care less about nation states. The bad actors get off hardly hurt, at any rate. Did Soros get hurt for crushing England with his short? did anyone fucking around in 2008 get hurt? And no, Maddoff is not at the same level as the $trillionaires. You are fucking deluded. Democracy is a power vacuum open for the highest bidder, and the highest bidders will always be elite folks in which laws don't apply.
