Why's that? Is it because of dilution?

>There’s a lot out there who’s chart looks like a square wave.
Really. That's fascinating.
I know there's a lot of cyclical patterns, as can kind of be seen with TEAM on a 1-2 month period, and I've heard the Medallion Fund from Renaissance Technologies (averaging 60% ROI for over 2 decades) actually takes advantage of this,
but I haven't really looked into OTC a whole lot
As shown by the Medallion Fund, that's very readily profitable if you have an eye for it, dude.

>Set a limit buy and limit sell. Fire and forget. Pretty boring though.
>Set a limit buy and limit sell.
I think that's actually something that I may do with my project. Determine the price at which something is a "strong buy" and just let the limit orders sit on a few dozen stocks for months.
I heard the Medallion Fund uses an absurd thing called "barrier options" which can be artificially constructed and is more tax advantageous.

I'll check that out.
I didn't even realize we had bear markets in 2014 and 2015. I noticed there was a nice lull, but I didn't know how bad it was.
I have to go look into that even more now because I thought those only came with "recessions"

>If it truly is a yield inversion, Id say high volitility but up until 2021
Yeah, recessions don't last for more than a year or two... I recall news reports coming out within the last year saying "have we recovered yet?" or "are we out of the recession yet?" and I was like wtf? that ended a while ago. I don't like the whole "lost decade" term. It seems foolish.
I heard it takes at least a few months until the market starts reacting properly to a recession.

Range trading was what I first learned to do. As far as why warrants are good I think it has to do with the low volume. My first system was to watch a stock for a week or so to find the top and bottom. Then I’d set my limit orders within that range. Wash rinse repeat.

Example would be if Stock A is trading between .25 and .28. Is set my limit but at .255 and my sell at .275. That part is important. If you set your orders to close it may not trigger a buy, especially if it’s low volume. I’d just keep doing it till the stock moved out of range. I think I was averaging 10% a week at one point but RH took away warrants before I had a chance to perfect it. It’s a hell of a lot harder with stocks. More volatile.

Great Paid Sources
>Interactive Brokers API

>Quandl

>quandl.com/databases/ZER

>quandl.com/databases/SF1
since 1997, quarterly data, pay $29/month
>quandl.com/databases/SFA
since 1997, daily/quarterly data, pay $49/month

Okay Free/Free-Trial Sources / Okay Paid Sources
>yCharts

>stockrow
No API or it's a free trial. Nice charts.
>finviz

>eodhistoricaldata.com
Pay $9.99/month. Data was in some way notulk-download offerings, I found that it only has data on the platform anywhere going back to a little over 10 years ago.
I have a preference for historical depth and quality over recency.

Basically what I did when I was actually trading crypto during the bullrun. I found a couple of low volume coins that went sideways a lot but made +-10% movements, and I bought the bottom and sold the top. I couldn't ever invest large amounts of money doing that, but I also didn't have large amounts so it was fine. Was pulling in 20%-30% daily pretty easily, sometimes something would even moon and I'd get 2x. I figured as long as the crypto gravy train rolled on for another year I could actually milk some real money out of it, but it wasn't meant to be. The market started crashing, I got nervous because I thought it could be the big one and pulled out.

I'll admit, all of my gains have been complete luck with minimal DD, but whatever, money gained is money gained. The nice thing about these threads is a lot of people will do DD for you on certain stocks that they research themselves. That's kind of the whole point of these threads. >You've just explained pretty much every trade i've done since January lol. I've had infinitely more success doing short term ER based options than I ever have trading stocks. It statistically doesn't make any sense.
I think there's a bit of a strategy for buying into dips -- don't do it all at once.
Maybe spend 1/3 when the price shocks you mid-day, maybe 1/3 more at EOD if you're very confident that it's a short mistake that the market it over-reacting to with emotional investing / doesn't impact bottom line / should pop right back up tomorrow, but at least reserve 1/3 for 1 week+ out if you think there's any chance it can go lower.
Once you're in all the way -- compare it to historical things that are similar for a benchmark and do NOT even consider options until you start looking at the dip in comparison to similar events and you start saying "this is ridiculous" (with FB, I was saying that at 20% down while looking at EFX's 33% down, which was a much, much bigger disaster)
If you DO touch options, shoot for ones that you think will still have 3 months time left on them when you finally can sell.
For options pricing, don't go deep OTM! It has to be a price that's completely reasonable for hitting on the recovery -- I shot for about halfway up from the bottom on FB.

>/b/ is a guilty pleasure, lets not kid ourselves.
Well of course it is lol how can you use this site without ever visiting /b/? And that's absolute insanity for some people.

It absolutely does.
People do fuck up and post lewds on /biz/ all the time, but even without that -- perhaps /biz/ doesn't hold a stigma, but you, yourself, visiting 4chan absolutely does.

>Are you worried they'd know it was you?
I think you don't understand the lack of deniability you really have.
There's archives, and they really aren't hard to find and dig through.
I was one of the morons face posting yesterday, but it was mainly because I've already dumped enough personal info that if anybody that knows me digs through my post history, they'd already be able to figure it out.
I've actually had the cops come to me once a couple years back and fucking show me my posts on the fucking archives, to say, "look, we know this is you, we know what you did." I got off scotch-free, but the pruned threads absolutely do not disappear from the internet.

>I think you guys are overly apprehensive. Biz is super benign.

>There's skepticism yeah but I also have legit gains over time to back up validity.
That's not even remotely a concern
>Just keep the conversations scoped appropriately and don't talk about other boards.

>Maybe my perspective is warped? I've been here since 06 so a lot of shit seems tame these days because I'm really desensitized.
Most normies have absolutely ZERO of that desensitization.

For sure, nothing is either gone or anonymous here. There's a good goddamn reason I didn't post my face and I'm incredibly lucky I did not get v& as a young tard (10 years ago I did something illegal on /b/ that made national news). But you're conflating doxxing and legal issues with just having casual conversations about shit posting.

I guess i haven't had any conversations with normies about gore or shit like that; certainly normies are not desensitized like me. pol is far and away the most hated aspect of the site in my experience. Certainly the site in general is unsavory but anyone with reservations had understood the idea of markedly different board cultures. No reactions on the level of vehemence you're describing. Again, I suppose I'm lucky. Also, there's the fact that I'm naturally crude in person, so there's probably selection bias in terms of who I have conversations with

The stock market returns 8.7% on average, but has the capacity to halve within a year, like back around 2007/2008.

At 200k, a 5% dividend (which you can score of REITs and utilities fairly easily) would be $10,000 per year but only $5,000 following a market halving.

In addition to this, there's this beautiful thing called inflation, and you'd have to continue to grow/reinvest your capital by 2-3% per year in addition to living off it.

I wouldn't feel safe with $500,000 at 8.7% per year because AVERAGE was the keyword there.
Drawing out 5k at a market bottom would hurt more than a top.
Plus, what about that random shit in life like random medical bills? Costly car repairs from an accident?

The reason that's not sustainable is the same reason why throwing all your money into 100X leverage is unsustainable, you can get a blow out.

So if I'm planning on continuing to work a ~$100k annual income job from that point on until I'm maybe 50, I assume no bills/utilities etc. because of the fact that the $100k a year I make will all go into paying off those bills and that $200k I made from age 21-30 will cover the rest of my life once I hit around 50-55 since my day job has allowed me to buy a house, guns, doggos, foods, etc.

I just want to have a nice nest to fall back on when I'm 50-55 so from my 30's to 50's I can splurge on hookers and guns.

So are you saying that in order to sustainably and comfortably retire you should target a certain income you'd want to retire at right now, leave a growth gap of 2-3% to cover inflation and then work out the amount required to get your desired income at about 2-3% (assuming you were mostly collecting dividends at 5%)?

So say you wanted a pretty modest yearly income of 60,000. If you were going to rely on 5% yield dividend stocks then you'd want 3 million in something like that, which would get you $150k but you'd reinvest 3% to keep pace with inflation and take out the $60k (or future equivalent) for living expenses.

Don't forget taxes too.
If you get 60k in dividends or realized gains, it will be taxed.

You will also need a very comfortable buffer for when recessions hit. Possibly comfortable enough so that you can actually retire and not micro-manage your investments.

But yes, you should target a growth beyond inflation, and then somehow make room for the income that you want.

I personally can't imagine this being anything even close to supplemental income for at least 5 years, unless I dump a chunk for a down payment on some real estate.
