A little maintenance for the OP edition

Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

The easiest method of trading options is to use Robinhood as it takes the least amount of vetting and sign up. Options are how one can access levels of volatility akin to cryptocurrency markets.

Why is DLTH still going down? It missed earnings by a little bit on the 5th but its still very profitable and is opening up new stores. Meanwhile people keep trying to sue the company for their stocks plummeting when its their fault they sold so badly, and the constant suing keeps investor sentiments down.
Why won't people see that its totally oversold? I bought in at 18 and its slowly and painfully dropped pretty much every day. Should I sell or wait for the next earnings call to be better?

I could have gotten so much more profit if I didn't go for the risky hold. Always went and waited to rise "Just a bit more man I know it can go higher" then proceed to fall faster than a fat man walking on a wet floor.

Biotechs overall are constantly crashing, no matter what the market as a whole is doing
People here just like biotechs because individual ones an have double digit (%) pumps in one day

And people like to pretend that they are le epic day traders and always get out before biotechs dump double digit % down within a week

Or they post something about
>muh future clinical trials
Or
>Thanks for the cheapies.jpg
And then they suddenly disappear on day because losses add up over time, and biotechs are (usually) terrible long holds, unless you know the company well or work there

Who /needs to stop fighting the market/ here?

I invest in biotech cheapies, I know we're not getting Bernie's Healthcare, but the market thinks healthcare sucks now, and rotated out of the sector. I may be on this sinking ship til November 2020, maybe longer. Fuck, if trump just says "hey we're doing single payer now," to take that away from dems, I could be bagholding to zero.

I think vaping and e-cigarettes have a bright future, especially with thc and cannabis involved. Mitch McConnell decides to push a bill that raises the national smoking age, I already sense the decline in Altria has begun.

I tend to stick to my guns and hodl, but I'm sure the opportunity cost is real.

On top of all this, bankers came out today (Dimon) and said trade deal soon recession not anytime soon. So I'm thinking we're in for some major downside.

biotech sector does not have overall trends, and it is not correlated to any other part of the market

their price moves based on memes and dreams, hype and potential clinical trials

biotechs are erratic in bull markets, and they are erratic in bear markets

if you want to trade based on trends and fundamentals, then biotech stocks are the worst way to do so, even crypto shit is more based in reality a noticeable majority of biotech companies

I can’t help feeling like we’re being slammed by the headlines that no one even believes. Did you read any of those articles about algos and AI trading not knowing how to handle Brexit? Because there is not a broker in the world that is going to tell you "ah yes this single share was a pence" because that isn't how any realistic trading traffic is organized. Maybe in the 1900s or some shit, but that's objectively not useful data to any serious trader when it's more about how much your total holdings are worth currently.
It's fun and games when you're a Robinhood trader. "oh yeah my Amazon share, my GE share, etc" but when you're slinging around tons of trades back and forth, that data is just flat useless.

And think about how you want that data reported. So do you want the option to choose what shares you sell? And then to be told that your trade made you no money? Or you lost money if you sold a different share? There just isn't a purpose to tracking that info, and the logistics of it would be a databasing NIGHTMARE.

Literally the whole thread is trying help you
Let's run a scenario. You buy a 100 shares of Acme Corp at 100.00 per share. Prices of Acme Corp rise to 120.00 so you decide to double up and purchase another 100 shares. Prices then fall down to 110.00, so you decide to hedge your bets and sell the original 100 shares (specifically these 100 shares, for some reason). What are your realized profits, your unrealized profits, and how would they be different if you sold your second set of 100 shares instead?

This is correct though. Your shares are interchangeable. You paid 507.50 for two shares. 252.50 each, effectively. The only thing you're losing when you sell one share is leverage on future price moves.
