One share of DWTI when it falls anywhere below $95. Then hold for a week, sell at +$105. When you buy at $95 it's ok if it falls to the high $80's just hang tight you'll see it come back. I've done this twice now with 3 shares. Made $30 the first time and $50 just now pic related. Limit buy at $94, limit sell at $110. eg I buy 100 shares of MSFT Jan 1, 2016. Then I buy 10 shares of MSFT every month with the final purchase ending on Jan 1, 2017.

Will I need to wait until Jan 2, 2018 to sell as a long term hold? Or will it be taxed per share purchase where the initial purchase is long & the following are taxed separately as short?

I used to play the U/D but only lost money due to decay and some crazy crashes ($51 oil -> $42 oil, not making that U price back). I avoid these now and just trade small cap oil stocks with margin. I end up with '2x' without decay if I use margin and the comfort of being able to wait for the price I bought in at if shit hits the fan or better. I've been making ~6-10% a week playing it safe.

$OAS & $PBR are some favorites with $OAS being more volatile. It should be falling further towards $10 or $11. Maybe lower if oil doesn't recover to the $45 or $46 handle.
There's also $CHK which isn't a bad buy before 7 / share.
I granted, I day trade or hold onto $OAS usually no longer than 2 or 3 days.

I have vanguard and I am thinking about transferring my fund over to Robin Hood because am rep try sure you can't short sell with vanguard

>> No.956146

>>956142
Usually vanguard funds are long term investments. Collect your ~7% a year and forget about it. The Vanguard platform...I have no idea, as a brokerage. I would use a different one.
As for day trading...I think you would use a different platform - I wasn't aware Vanguard had their own but I guess they do. I would use TDameritrade, Etrade, etc. and deal with commision fees. I'm not sure how Robinhood works and if you can't short-sell. I use Etrade.

>> No.956154

>>956147
I wouldn't advise it. It hasn't fallen enough from it's ~$13 figure. When oil was $49 - $51 last time, OAS was floating at $14. Oil is now near $44, and this is when $OAS could swing to $9 - $11 territory. I would think it will fall some more. Buying @ $11 would not be bad. $11.50 is also fine. I personally expect lower...but i will buy at $11. If Oil does not recover quick enough to the $46 handle, then $10 - $11 is definitely near. Good luck m80.

As for $PBR, it could fall to 4.5 in the near term if oil doesn't swing back. But, if you do not buy with margin, the current price isn't bad at all if you want to hold it until...whenever.

Listen kid, you have no idea what you're talking about. What you're advocating for is emotional investing. Go read a book or play outside. Come back when your YTD gains are more than a percent of my portfolio.

What happens when interest rates rise? How does that affect the stock market? Do companies suddenly lose money because their new loans/leases/office properties have new cost complications?

....Of course his YTD is only a percentage of your portfolio. That's how gains work. They're just a percentage of your portfolio.
Also, if he's been trading for less than a year, that's just his total gains, not necessarily gains over a year

RHG really should just be called stock trading general, since not everyone here uses RH. The majority of posters here use it because of the no commission trading since I get the feeling most of the people here are still relatively new to trading but that in no way means every poster is using RH ya dingus
