Wait for earnings on a company that you know is trash or know is great. Make that big options purchase for that one and you can easily double your portfolio in a day or two. I don't even hold stock anymore because it's too slow. Some weeks I won't even do anything with my account. My account will be pure cash, or I just dump everything in VTI until a better opportunity shows up. I have made 50% of my portfolio in two days of trading with this strategy.

Also yeah almost all my gains are exclusively from options now. I throw in my cash into stocks to hold, then take out 50% margin to play options with. It's so simple if you know what you're doing, and not doing same day/earnings plays. It's the easiest 20 - 30% ever, then you can do it again and again.
