Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Well I don't know anon... Why would anybody want to own a literal money machine?

No really, if you buy all of a company's outstanding shares, you own the company. This is how buy-outs and hostile take-overs work. One company literally puchases 51% of the shares of another company.
You can fire the CEO and install your own into the company -- yourself.
Their profit is literally yours. You can put it all in your pocket -- this is called a dividend.
You can do whatever you want with it. Fire any employee. Make the strategic calls about their products. Lay everybody off and take out enormous amounts of debt in their name.
The company is literally yours in the exact same sense as a start-up that you personally founded on your own.

It was a good run, could have had 35% profits before the call, but i waited till after so only made around 25%. Not a bad couple of months.

Doubled my stake in SGMO. This dip surely cant go any lower. If all is right with the world, i should be 10% by week's end. Or it will keep being irrational and drop another 10% instead.

To answer your original question, yes, you should consider taking your money out and investing it on your own, with the caveat that you have to make it a full-time job. You won't learn everything in a day (or a year), and you have to invest your time to actively manage your money and learn as you go (the more experienced you get the less time you'll need to devote). But if you're of average or above intelligence then you'll absolutely be in a position to beat the returns offered by banks/financials. It's easier and cheaper than ever to learn this stuff but it still requires time and dedication.

Most of the posters in this thread dream of living that lifestyle, but you may not. If you don't then keep your money with the bank or even purchase an annuity. They're selling convenience and peace of mind.

Breh. Even if Iran turns into a nothingburger crude has nowhere to go but up. Saudis are back in control of the market and want $88/bbl. The US hasn't invested in domestic production for the last 4 years because low prices. Demand is still going up.

I expect crude prices to increase until at least 2020 when a bunch of US LNG export projects come online and US crude production has increased in response to higher prices.
