Currently a freshman at a large US college, pursuing a BS in Finance.

Anyone else feel like there's a lot of try-hards at their school? I'm starting to think that there's two kinds of people: those who like being business students, and those who actually want to do business. I constantly bounce small business ideas around in my head, keep a small journal for notes if I get something, and am racking my brain thinking about how to make them work. But, it seems like all people want to do is land a job with GS and just ride out. Honestly, that sounds like the most stale thing ever- IB, after reading half a book about it, sounds completely boring. (Talk about a romanticized profession) I get that people are interested in it, but man it's a dry field.

Maybe I'm just a lost freshman or something, who knows, but I just wish there was more creativity / scheming around here. Maybe I haven't met the right people yet.

Finance and economics are tryhard magnets. People think life is an rpg where you go to uni for 4 years and try your hardest and then get your dreamjob.

Life is like an rpg; in that you have the autonomy to do what you want, but there is a lot of randomness and just plain bullshit that they don't program in rpgs.
You are not lost, you have different goals and methods.

The problem is you think you're more intelligent and unique than your peers, and now you're looking for validation.

Tell me about it.

Even if you go to a good school and shit the entire selection process to be noticed at an early stage is so much more random that you would want to believe.

After hustling and making about 45+ phone calls to recruiters to banks and stuff I found out that they are getting stupid numbers of applications for entry level stuff (as in >3k applicants for an unpaid law clerkship/internship position). On the phone they couldn't even confirm if they received my resume and sites like www.clearCV.com seem to indicate that where applications are competitive they use shitty software to filter out >90% of applicants.

Tables turn once you actually have experience at a top firm but its absolutely insane.
With the sexual harassment EO andHR shit these days you cant even really count on personal networking either.
It would seal the deal at smaller places or help at the interview stage but getting seen is impossible.

That's because people in high finance are the top-tier of wage cucks.

Honestly, some people just don't like taking risks and are destined to be cucks.

More power to you OP, hopefully you do something your life.

Actually when i was in uni studying finance it was quite the opposite. Great people in general, mostly kids from well of families.

But the marketing major, oh god, just shoot them all. All men were clearly fags, girls insanely stupid in general.

human nature is risk avoidant. but if you are lets say 20-26yo that is the best age to take risk with own business. u dont have to take huge financial risks to put up a well planned business. and the roi can be very good as you start young.

however statistics dont speak for starting an own business, so beware. most simply fail within first year. can be fun tho.

Honestly the degree teaches you nothing that I haven't learned being a buisness owner already. Im starting my 3rd year and it's funny some of these people think they can actually be successful at buisness.
I have a vintage clothing store and antique store. In my opinion your either a born entrepreneur or not. You sound like a dreamer not a doer. Its alot of stress and alot work to get anywhere as a buisness owner. Settle for the office job if you can get one.
