Money in and of itself won't make you happy, you should always consider money as a means to an end. As for me, I just want to be able to do what I love without worrying about cash. I think the reason most rich people get depressed is because they had no clear goal about what they wanted to do with their lives except becoming rich. Then when they finally DO get rich, they don't know what to do.

you literally have to give up your life to make a lot of money, then once you have it you've wasted so much of your time that there's little which brings you joy anymore.

that's why you sometimes see people take on "menial" jobs like become martial arts instructors after burning out in whatever job they had that was making them lots of money. it's not that the money makes them sad, it's what they had to do to get that money that destroys them.

When you are the 0.1%, only one person in a thousand will be your real peer in terms of aptitude, perspicacity and life experience.

Most people are not very optimistic by nature, even less so among people who can actually get really rich to begin with. But if asked whether they want to trade their money for happiness and optimism I guarantee that they will say no. People that are born rich are more likely to be depressed than the people that worked from rags to riches.

I’m personally motivated to make it and escape the rat race while I’m still young. That alone drives me and excites me. But imagine being handed a $100 million trust fund when you turn 18, having always had what you wanted and NEVER having to have worked for anything. Everything was always handed to you, there is literally no motivation or drive and these people end up either blowing it and going broke or dying of heroin overdoses in Thailand.

The real challenge is making it yourself, THEN truly appreciating the good life and freedom that YOU earned - that nothing was handed to you.

Middle class people are a bunch of cunts because of this. It's like they want to pretend to have not been very well off in life, so they "earned" what they have. They refuse to look down and see that they're nearly at the top of the human food chain, while constantly staring up at those above them, making them feel like they're much lower than they really are.

Serious: because working to survive is a huge distraction. Without that distraction there is a lot of free time to left, and it becomes easy to ruminate over the bigger questions in life, the one's that don't have concrete answers. What is your purpose? Why is there suffering? etc

And before you know it you've turned into a hedonist, doing drugs and buying women just to fill the void. And that's only a temporary escape.

I doubt most of us will find the answers to all of those philosophical questions, you could read some Nietzsche if you're really looking for reasons not to off yourself I guess. If you make it and have nothing to do then set some goals or get hobbies at least that's what I'd do. Devote your life to creating something beautiful and worthwhile rather than wasting away. Easier said than done but I'd consider that to be the end game.

This is assuming rich people get sad which is wrong. Sad people get rich to cope with sadness.

The problem with people that want to get rich is that they are meme'd into believing that riches will solve their pre-existing emotional problems. So, when a person gets rich believing riches will solve those emotional problems and said emotional problem don't get solved, their situation only gets worse.

Dude a large percentage of athletes go bust after their career it's not even an argument.
A 2009 report from Sports Illustrated found that “78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce” after they'd been retired only two years.

https://www.google.ca/amp/amp.timeinc.net/time/money/3821404/nfl-players-retire-bankruptcy-life-expectancy

You can find similar statistics with any sport, is the minority that manages to smartly invest so they can stay rich after retirement.

Because it doesn't lead to happiness, or gaining money isn't what gives happiness.

For example I've got a cool 3 million, however I stay awake at night thinking about a girl in high school who killed herself, who put my name down as her best friend. Yet I hadn't spoken to her but just a few times while in high school.
