it's a different kind of stupid. In skateboarding people's egos are inflated by several orders of magnitude since it's so "cool" right now, so they have even less motivation to learn about new things. Honestly, I know a lot of amateur-pro skateboarders and though I've only talked to one of them directly about it (he's not invested in it or has even considered it and seemed antagonistic to the idea), my guess is that MOST if not all of them have no idea about this shit, nor would they even know where to start.

I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, and so I have a high level of computer proficiency as well as a healthy love of physical activities (one of which being skateboarding). So I have the skill sets to understand enough to invest in crypto, while also simultaneously "being a skateboarder". I don't really subscribe to the culture though, honestly.

>>8810765
Skaters are largely very cynical and skeptical about things - they historically have been considered the scum/outcasts of society and are generally more street smart than the average normie. So it's expected that they would question crypto's legitimacy. In addition, the social media boom has almost permanently incapacitated skaters since Instagram introduced video posts - it's truly become an obsession to show off and try to stand out on the internet. With this kind of daily distraction it's highly unlikely for them to think outside the box - though if a well-known skateboarder who is considered to be intelligent (e.g. Mark Suciu) were to personally endorse crypto, it could start an increase in awareness (though not in market cap - most skaters are piss poor).

Skateboarding "culture" is garbage. A lot of skateboarders are obsessed with the image, and whatever fads are popular, so you're spot on with that assessment. But there's all kinds of people into it, and most of them are supportive of new comers, so that's a positive aspect of the culture.

Totally agree, probably why I waited so long to get into crypto, despite knowing very early on that it was going to be big.
For instance: have you heard of these suspension skate trucks? Pretty interesting concept really, imo it's a huge innovation on skateboard technology, but most skateboarders I've talked to about it wont give it the time of day, think it's a gimmick, or whatever.

One certain drawback is the slight learning curve. If you've been skating solid trucks your whole life, these springy things will require small adjustments to how you perform your tricks, landing and balance. Once you get used to them though, this isn't a problem obviously.

Another drawback is the "loose" feel of the trucks. If you skate really tight trucks, you might not like these, because they will always feel slightly looser even if you have the bushings tightened to hell. Also, I feel like the stock bushings are a bit on the soft side.

The biggest thing I was concerned about when I got 'em, and the biggest thing everyone thinks about with these is durability. And I do have some reason to believe they are less durable than regular trucks. Pic related was from my first pair, and frankly the first truck I've ever personally broken. They lasted about 3-4 months of off-and-on skating. I did swap out the bushings for a pair I got off some Independent trucks, and I had 'em pretty tight. But that break is weird as fuck, like how does a truck even break like that right? I've seen another guy on youtube who snapped the spring part, which is how you would expect these to fail. I'm trying the native bushings and I'm pretty much used to them now, so we'll see how it goes.

Also they're a bit more expensive than a standard truck.

They are very comfortable if you want to cruise around as they absorb vibration very well, especially if you use filmer wheels with them.

Exhibit A. A set-in-his ways skatefag.
This is the typical response from skateboarders when they're approached with these trucks (or other innovations such as the carbon fiber deck which is lighter and more durable), as if innovation is a threat to be shut down, rather than a tool to be experimented with.

I don't "need" these trucks. I skated standard trucks for years (mostly indy's and some ventures in there). But I'm not afraid to try new things. I'm still not 100% sold on these. There are some things I like and some things I don't like. But putting suspension on a skateboard is hardly a bad idea. Keep an open mind grandpa!

From a technical standpoint it could make sense to try them, but people are probably afraid of getting made fun of because they care so much about what their peers think. I'd be more concerned about not being able to comfortably ride a friend's board if mine broke or my bearings stopped rolling or blew out because I'd be so used to it, plus the possibility of that company going out of business - sort of like in programming you use what everyone else uses because it has more community support. There's also a lack of endorsement by well-known pros, if Gerwer or Nuge bombed a hill with them on and said they were good I'd be more likely to trust the hardware rolling fast

I feel like it's not properly emphasized enough, that a lot of the reason you struggle with it, is because of underdeveloped muscles for it. ESPECIALLY balance oriented muscles. But the muscles that will help you kick and pop also. It's a lot of groin work, and I've found the groin machines at the gym help a lot with this (they look fucking gay though so skip if you have an ego problem). Also, box jumps are excellent for developing skate relevant muscles.

The short answer is practice. I recommend getting extremely comfortable on the board, and pushing your comfort level incrementally before you even try to ollie, let alone kickflip. One of the best things I ever did for myself in skateboarding was learn how to push switch, and start learning switch. Skateboarding really is an ambidextrous sport, and you'll never feel fully comfortable until you can ride around both switch and regular. Highly recommended.

Hell yeah dude. I use my cruiser board to get around the city when I'm working there. So sick.

Couple things you can try at home - do like 15-20 minutes of balance practice. You can use your deck for this, put it on the ground and stand on your kick foot and make the motions of pushing with your pop foot but don't touch the ground, see how long you can go. One footed balance practice is huge, especially for your switch feet position. You can also make a balance board with a plain deck and a completely filled 2-3 liter bottle to balance on. Look it up, it's pretty fun and you can do it at home. Super low commitment.

Aaron Kyro is a fag. But you're right, he capitalized on a good market and helped the skateboarding scene reach new audiences. I can't hate on the guy, he made a living doing what he loves, even if he is kindof a faggot.

I am holding very heavy bags. I've sacrificed a lot of my time and passed lots of opportunities for myself to document other people's talents. It weighs on my mind heavy a lot of nights but in the end I've come to see I have friendships and memories that even a million dollars could never buy, that's the only thing keeping me going.

RIP FOY. But yea skateboarding (just like anything else) is what you make it. Even the days where me and the rest of the skate scene are skating in circles around a giant monolith for hours, and I'm losing my mind, I'm still making good memories and would rather be doing that than just about anything else on a nice day.

This is the type of post I expect from someone who watches youtube videos on "How To Kickflip" before going to their local park to practice flat ground tricks in the parking lot 2 years after picking up a board.

There's reason you don't see any pros or anyone who's "up" in skateboarding use this shit. It's literally useless and unconventional. Not to mention you pull up with some carbon fiber skate trucks on the spot, the whole city will flame you.

Suspension trucks are great for longboards, I have them on my Original Derringer. But I'd never use them on a kickflipper, there is a reason pros don't (harder to control, not as responsive). Some things don't need much further evolution.

I've been skating for 7 years and the only video I've ever watched was how to wall ride because I could not comprende. You don't need the internet to learn how to skate you dingus. You think Mark Gonzales watched skate tip videos and that's how he got good? No, its called you just skate and have fun with friends and learn from each other.

Some things are enjoyable for themselves. I'm interested in Finance, investing and geeky shit, but one of my dear primary school bro's who i hang with to this day skates.

Sometimes i drop by, and see 30+ skaters who are awesome people. This dude will never understand, since he's to busy being on his boat taking IG pics to bang hot thots. Love man.

Lol, to add to that.

My skateboarding friend gets tail like you wouldn't know. Actually getting good at skating requires something half you fucking braindead zombies don't have: BALLS and Grit.

Try a dropin, try a boardslide of a handrail.
Practicing that shit will require handling pain. This translates into getting girls, both these skater friends are notorious wingmen who get more tail than me, and i'm pretty decent.

They are the type of guys that will fuck the 8/10 while hubby is at work and she's bored so i fucked the poolboy, if you know what i mean.

Holy shit, you guys are still not getting it?
Your buddies were getting rekt so they invited you to the thread to? And this is supposed to...gain my respect or something?

What are you and your crew trying to prove? You guys are aware that you can watch videos AND go out and skate, in fact, that's kindof the point yah fuckin brainlets. In fact, that's exactly the same thing we used to do back in the day before the internet was even a thing. We'd watch videos, play tony hawk on PS, get hyped and go shred it. But I guess the internet makes it less legitimate in your eyes.

I just got done taking care of business, and now I'm going to go skate for real. Oh but wait, I watched a couple videos today, they weren't tutorials though... is that alright with you guys?
