Older trader here.

If you bought the 10 correction March 20th, 2000 you'd only make back your money sometime late in 2007.

Some bear markets last a long time. 2000-2004 for example or back in the early 90's.

My best guess is we're going to have a rebound monday, but until the Fed raises rates the market is going to remain stagnant off it's peak.
The wildcard here is China/Asia. If these nations slow manufacturing anymore or if Shanghai drops to 3000, we'll likely see a new global recession.
All bets are off after that.

Right now I think the Fed will delay the rate rise till December at the earliest. We will see.

Stock market investing should not be taken as fixed income. Variable income varies up and down, otherwise it would be called variable income that only goes up.
You should only buy stocks with money that you're ok with losing. A minimum of 5 years should be taken into account before thinking of returns. It should be considered a lifelong investment, not a quickly cash scheme or "buy the dip" scheme.

Unfortunately people have no idea of what the stock market is, they see it as a game, not as the opportunity of being a shareholder of great and profitable companies. You're not supposed to predict the future, you're supposed to analyze the VALUE of the companies and forget prices.

Price should only matter to traders. If you're willing to make a trade, then you sure should care about price variations and use technical analysis. If you're a small investor, then you should only care about VALUE.

Don't even look at prices, don't even look at your portfolio returns. Maybe once a year at max. The stock market is crashing? Let it be. The important thing is that the companies remain profitable.

If you keep looking at prices and charts and news, you'll inevitably panic and sell near the bottom and come back to the stock market at the top.

Don't be retarded. Eat a small loss and sell if you think the markets are headed south, accept that you'll miss out on the first few percent of growth and buy back in once the market rebounds.

Anyway, the way you profit on a downturn is by buying triple-leveraged short ETFs, but if the market rallies you lose it all.

Anyone else kicking themselves for believing the hype that China was the future?

Goddammit. Why is China so fucking stupid? Everyone was saying for years that it was going to be the next Japan and these incompetent fucking Chinks just shit all over the bed and then they start smearing it all over themselves and making it even worse. They took a fuck up and made it thousands of times worse than what it would have been if they had the sense of a real country and not a fucking peasant empire. That's what I get in investing in the fucking peasant empire of Asia.

I put so much into these stupid fucking Chinks and they ruin EVERYTHING. We should have given the country to Japan and let them enslave these stupid animals back in the war because they aren't good for anything other than working like peasants while someone outside of China with an actual brain is leading them. When I saw that video of the Chinese woman shitting in the elevator last year I just KNEW that I should have jumped out while I was still on top, but I kept going with the fucking pack and believing the "China is magic" bullshit.
