I've seen some programs on Udemy and I have given it a shot. I honestly don't have an affinity for it, just figure I should really buckle down and try to get a career going where I can learn online and not have to throw so much more money at a degree.

Most people I work with aren't new grads. Several don't even have a degree.

Protip: The languages you know don't really matter after the first few. The difficulty of learning a new language is pretty much 1/(n+1) where n is the number of languages you know.

You can make it, just learn to code. Do solid open source work, go to local dev meetups, etc.

DESU I think dapps are really interesting, but ethereum is extremely limited since all nodes need to run the code. I started as a software engineer too and I work in Silicon Valley (live in Belmont currently). You make more than I did starting, but thats because my companies stock was shitty. Now I'm 28 and I make what you do in just my salary portion.

Let me give you some advice: when you first get your job you will think you are a big dicked badass because you are making 2-10x what some of your friends are making.. Then the reality of bay area living settles in and you will want even more money. I remember thinking at 100K/year base salary I could afford a home here in a couple years, but you love 1/3 to taxes, a bunch to rent, etc. The home prices around me are also rising about as fast as I can save lol.

Still, congrats anon, and send me your resume because we are hiring for my team

Yes. We joke about it at work all the time. Blockchain has much worse asymptotic performance compared to existing technologies. We handle 4M+ transactions per second through our Kafka/Spark ETL pipeline. Blockchains are also very expensive in both network cost and storage cost to operate. Blockchains have O(n) network cost per transaction (n= number of nodes in network) and have super-linear storage costs with respect to transaction volume (because transactions are immutable, storage costs monotonically increase over time, not just with respect to transaction volume).

Basically, the tech is shit for many reasons. That hasn't stopped some of us from investing in the normie hype, we just didn't fall for the HODL meme. We know to take our gains when we can. One of my coworkers made a couple hundred K off of Etherium.
