Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

yes if the dow loses 33% of its value your etf goes to zero. also you can lose money even if the dow remains flat or goes up due to slippage. you lose more money the more volatile the dow is and we're in a volatile market now.

eg, the dow goes down 6% then up 7% your 3x etf just lost money even though the dow is up overall

Wait what ... that means that leverage is automatically negatively biased, right? Assume $100 in, 1% up, 1% down, with 1x, 5x or 10x leverages:

100*(1+0.01*1)*(1-0.01*1) = 99.99
100*(1+0.01*5)*(1-0.01*5) = 99.75
100*(1+0.01*10)*(1-0.01*10) = 99

So the higher the leverage the higher the negative bias ... who would use leverage at all, if you are automatically biased to lose money?

leverage is different from a 3x etf. when you leverage you literally own 3 shares and you exactly track the index. of course, there are disadvantages -- you need to post collateral and pay interest. so in the end, you're negatively biased either way. to answer your question, someone who was pretty sure the market is going up would use leverage

A story popped up in my news feed today that has me intrigued. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell announced a new bill being put forward that will legalize hemp as an agricultural product. While this is only tangentially related to upcoming recreational marijuana legalization, there are a few companies in the sector who have fingers in this particular hemp pie as well. Notably MWM, Hempco, and primarily US based (Canadian traded) FFT.

http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/380287-mcconnell-bill-would-legalize-hemp-as-agricultural-product

There was a second news story today stating that Aurora Cannabis increased their stake in Hempco to 35%.

https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/aurora-cannabis-increases-stake-in-hempco-to-35-677902583.html

This is a part of the marijuana industry that I believe many investors are sleeping on. While long term upside on hemp production is pretty slim (tight margins), an investment in hemp growers right now could pay out pretty well as this is very early in the game still. Might be something to look at if you're of the opinion that recreational marijuana is already pretty inflated in terms of share prices.

Don't even put a dollar into the market. Anything you might have learned from crypto means shit.

AT MOST, buy some blue chip, or ETFs with a good record, and medium risk. Then decide what you want - long term investment, dividend income, or day trading. Each is a separate thing, and with separate strategies.

>Join Morningstar.com, and start trading fake purchases.
>Start reading sites like Investopia
>Start reading The Wall Street Journal, and other sites
>If you have more than a couple grand, start auditing financial services, like Ameriprise, or Merryl Lynch, for long term holding.
>Figure out if your money, or a portion of it, is better off in an IRA for a long term hold, tax free.
>Talk and LISTEN to people with a proven track record in investing, especially if they do it for a living. In other words, not here.

Do this for a year. Then you're ready for your first trade. If you have some cash accumulated, consider putting it in an investment account for now, let someone else grow it for you while you learn. Having someone you can call and talk to about questions you have is worth the fees.

This year is probably gonna be bumpy, because Trump is getting into shit that shakes the market, but has long term payoffs. He's looking at second term shit right now. The time to go all in with no experience was this time last year, the market was easy money until January. Now? Not a good time to be jumping in, unless you catch a dip like yesterday, and know what to buy. If you're looking for money right now, you need to day trade, and you can't learn that here - and you're not going to learn it fast, and you WILL lose more than you win in the beginning. Stay the fuck away from margin trading and derivatives. Stick to blue chip and ETFs for now, if you HAVE to jump in.

Nikkei and globally stocks are green. VIX is down, but not in any amount that's alarming.

Grass looks green for tomorrow. Remember 2011? When stocks dropped 2k? No, you don't, because you didn't start paying attention to the stock market until last December. It dropped 2k, and rebounded quickly. My bet is that this will happen again. I don't think we'll go back up all the way, but we should at least retrace from where it started to shit the bed. Happened again in 2015, 2k drop. Had a dead cat bounce, and then mooned in the trump rally. Look at the history charts, faggots. The market can and does rebound, and since 2009 over all, it's all up. With the economy doing well, I see no reason for a downward trend. And you "hurr derr dollar falling" faggots can fuck right off with that meme.

Just finished up my tax stuff for the year. Pain in the ass as usual however slightly less of a pain than previous years. Canada Revenue set up a thing where you can dump all the information they have on file for you for the year straight in to your return without having to manually type it all in. It even broke up all my investments in to separate T5008's which was very handy. All I had to do was type in the settlement date and the original book cost for each. That saved me about an hour of typing in numbers.

Microsoft has come up in the past few months a lot but I suppose it could go to well over $200, they have multiple solid products and they are not going away any time soon. The dividends also make it interesting for long term investment. What do you think?
