i've been out of the crypto loop for six or seven year now and i'm kind of awestruck at how big this has gotten.
whats a wallet? what exchanges dont suck balls? what are the top three coins right now? i honestly don't know where to start, this is so overwhelming for someone who remembers bitcoin as that internet money your 9800gt magically made so stoners could buy magic mushrooms or whatever online.

i had a bitcoin or so on my old rig, at the time i gave up mining because it didn't seem profitable...

also, i was thinking of buying 50$ worth of eth and 50$ of chainlink for start, is this a smart investment?

depends on what you want
high risk/ high reward
or you want minimum risk and not high percentage reward?

>50$ worth of eth
Yeah, just don't expect much off of it.
>50$ of chainlink for start
Yeah just expect that to either hit $0 or $50,000 eventually.

first you have to accept that you can lose your money anywhere there arent guaranteed profits
second i would say put some money in a top 50 project and you could see medium growth
something like ICX, AION or WAN, imo interoperability gonna be huge topic this year
but if you feel really risky you could put it in LINK

You should hedge your money into bnb coin. It’s trading coin for binance the #1 exchange. Then buy icx or wanchain as a medium risk medium reward play and one high risk high reward play. Binance will always be around and they are doing a coin burn to reduce supply. Chain link would be the high risk high reward. Another good high risk is HPB MAN OCN INT TRAC BTO SoPHtX

i'll look into those coins, what exchange is recommended for low volume buying and selling, if possible with an integrated wallet?

The original Bitcoin has been overtaken by a communist gang of retards that based on retarded commie excuses intentionally crippled it with 1-mb blocks making it unusable under load, so everyone is fleeing it. Buy Bitcoin Cash, it's true to what Bitcoin was supposed to be and it will win by the laws of economics.

wallet: basically what it sounds like, lets you store your bitcoin on your own terms in a safe and encrypted form. there are also physical/offline wallets for people who are in deep but I don’t know much about those since I’m a poorfag.
good exchanges right now: GDAX, Kraken, Gemini. pretty much anything will do the job but some of them are real assholes and take huge transaction fees or suspiciously stop trading at convenient times (Coinbase. yes, it’s still around).
