So I decided to start taking this a bit more seriously and start attempting to analyse company's balance sheets. It is said that a company is all good if it's equities+liabilities=total assets. Why exactly is this a good thing? If I'm understanding correctly it simply means the company is not in debt that quarter. Also, can a company's assets ever be more than it's liabilities and equity?

Tip: When (if) you actually trade using real money it's advisable to give the stock some range because it's possible that it won't find the amount of stocks you want for the specific price you entered so what you do is set the limit as $24.40-$24.39 ($24.40 being the trigger for the buying to short, $24.39 the lowest you're willing to sell - notice that the range goes lower when you short, and higher when you buy - 1 cent is usually enough, some high spread stocks though would require 2 or 3 cents though) or else its possible that you won't be able to grab that stock.

Limit is a single dimensional command, it only buys, sells or shorts - not a combination of any of those. What the limit command allows you to do is set a limit on the price you're willing to buy, sell or short a stock at as opposed to a "market" command that will just buy, sell or short a stock as fast as it can at whatever the asking price currently is. Entering a command like the one you just described would mean that as soon as the stock reached $25 your broker will be triggered into shorting stocks for you, the second number - $24.50) only means that the lowest price you're willing to short at is $24.50, so the price you buy the stock at will be somewhere between $25-24.50, nothing more.

Pretty much. If you go long and the price dips, you can usually hold until it goes back up if you really have faith in it. If you go short and it goes up, you're pretty much waiting on bad news to happen for a drop, and then you can't even be sure it will put you at break even in the long run.
