How would you fix this?

Was valuated at $400 million, then collapsed and nothing has come to replace it yet.

>> No.6980744

LOL what coin is this?

Got the joke out of the way.

Honestly, the censorship sucked ass, maybe using an algo to shadow ban those spammers(the hooker trash, and sneaker sellers on campus) but keep it anon’ to the point of encouraging a chan like environment. Maybe more interactive user experience like foursquare. I honestly felt like YY was going to be a lot more fun than how it all turned out.

Used to have gut busting fun with this app when I was stationed at a base a few years ago. It was as training command so me a few other people would post things about gay orgies in this barracks or how this person in the command is a homo or other weird shit like that and then piss ourselves laughing when they would take all the students outside and haze the shit out of them and take all of their off base privileges away. Such magical times.

I actually shilled this idea to some app developers and I unironically believe they may have stolen it. Oh well I should have learned to code.

Shit got boring when all the cool kids left. It was about fraternity members shitting on each other at first but then they got bored of it and it turned into social misfits trying to make friends or lose their virginity on there. Was actually kind of sad towards the end.

Early days you just posted your sc and could fuck girls. It was easy, like early whisper or early Tinder.

Fucked so many high school girls on YY

100% exactly how I feel. They geofenced high schools and cut 70% of their userbase.

Just autoremove posts with x percentage reports, hire janitors, and lean back.

i used this app a lot when it came out. The problem with it was that it was half reddit half 4chan in a way. The voting system was retarded, and once people found out what got them the most upboats they same posts were made every single day. The content just became recycled over and over. On top of that, your post was hidden if it had a score of -5 so anything controversial was just removed, as well as the censoring of posts.

>>6980511
They honestly messed up when they forced you to make a username to use it. It's unfortunate that someone used the app at my school to make a bomb threat, and I think that's what did them in, the anonymity of it all. If they just stuck to posting text, got rid of pictures, stopped geofencing, they'd probably be better off.

>> No.6981821

>>6981768
it either shoulda went full social with profiles and accounts and stuff, or full anonymous. People definitely wanted the later. >>6981789
I didnt realize they went that far and quit the app before that due to the voting shit but it doesn't surprise me that that was the nail in the coffin

yeah the voting was annoying but then forcing you to create a username made me lose interest. You could choose to hide the username when you posted so no one could see but it defeated the purpose.

boo hoos? not sure what you mean. To me the two apps seemed similar except whisper lets you message people and yik yak didn't. But yikyak let you upvote/downvote which you can't do on whisper

yikyak = reddit
whisper = 4chan

>Honestly, the censorship sucked ass
How to fail:
1) Make an anon app with little censorship that everyone loves
2) Allow people to report others
3) require profiles
4) restrict conservatives
5) all that's left are stupid, uninteresting women and stolen jokes from other sites

I wonder how it failed.

I feel like pictures are a huge liability. I wonder how much cp 4chan has to deal with on a daily basis.

>>6981789
They should have just tied accounts to email addresses from the jump, or allowed people to log in with Facebook. Easy, low barrier of entry, and just enough hassle that 90% of banned trolls wouldn't bother to persist.

>They should have just tied accounts to email addresses from the jump, or allowed people to log in with Facebook.

No, that's why it failed. People want to be able to converse anonymously, and this is the ultimate gossip tool due to the fact that it has a radius that you post around. If your face or identity is tied to it in any way, it ruins the concept. Having trolls made it interesting

>> No.6982641

>>6982549
I'm saying tie the account to an email address but still keep all posts anonymous to the userbase. This achieves the same goal while making it easy to ban someone.

It's not like you're unidentifiable by device or install instance anyway.

They should.have removed the handles and fired bunch of moderators. They could have done this and sold the app instead of shutting it down. Apps have cycles of growth and decay. They only needed to wait until a 2nd wave of hype for users to come back.
