They're populated by leathery old people in luridly coloured polo shirts and rich Arabs, with the view of the sea completely blocked off by three-storey high plastic boats. The bars and clubs around the harbour are no better than anything you'd find in a provincial English town centre, and several times as expensive. The restaurants all serve similar 'international' food, which is passable but unremarkable, and again at astronomical prices. The road into Saint Tropez is only a single-lane, so in the summer it can take several hours to get into or out of the town, where there's no parking anyway. I think the biggest problem is that what's on offer there is just so bland and ordinary. Some of the beaches nearby are pretty decent, but if you own a yacht there are much better places in the Mediterranean to keep it. Honestly, I've been there several times, London or New York offers a much better playground if you've got money to spend.

For the later generations though money is the norm and they are far less likely to appreciate its value or the work it takes to accumulate it. They are in my view more likely to be the people buying gold Apple watches and Range Rovers.

Besides to dress well worry about buying (or altering) clothes to fit you, and concentrate on buying classic styles in good fabrics. These things on average cost more but if you are smart can be done cheaply. A $500 pair of jeans that fit badly will still look like shit.
