Pro tip: you can't

>> No.658055

Rice and beans.

>Bread & cheese

Princes and kings may eat this as a snack,
But only dumb peasants eat this for dinner.
Pound for pound, you are paying a 300% + markup on water and flour.

>a bag of flour from supermarket -
>a dollar?
>one handful/cup of flour + tap water = one pizza
>10 cents?

>one handful generic mozzarella/cheddar cheese blend, grated
>ten cents?

>spoonful of passata/sieved tomatoes
>five cents?

>slices of pepperoni
>a dollar?

>gas for cooking 10-12 mins
>ten cents

= $1.50 or less

-Sells for $5.00
-nigga you could buy the ingredients to make pizzas all week for $10-20 tops.

>>658055

Rice and beans
Rice and peas

>what smart peasants eat
>what 50% of the world feeds entire families on for less than a dollar a day
>cheapest complete protein, pound for pound

Since we're on this topic what are some god tier foods I can cook on a budget? I'm thinking of buying in bulk ingredients mixing them up into 1 super dish and eat if for a month for pennies a day. Any ideas?

>> No.658110

>>658106
>for a month
Unless you like eating pure chemical powders (and those aren't cheap), you won't be able to make a descent dish that stays good and tasty for so long.

Just cook for a week in advance like normal people.

>two plant sources
>complete protein
Yeah, and yeah.

>Implying amino acids, and therefore protein strands, don't occur in almost any biological lifeform.

Ever heard of vegetable protein?

I'm actually qualified in nutrition.
You, clearly, are not.

The combining of pulses and grains can make a complete protein.
The missing amino acids in one are supplemented by the other.

Some other complete proteins from plant sources -
Quinoa
Hemp
Soya
Edamame (soya beans)
Some other beans, like garbanzo beans/chickpeas

>> No.658114

Also, nuts and seeds could be combined.

The cheapest foods you can still live well on are:

Eggs
Milk
Beans
Rice
Nuts
Chicken
Tuna
Mince

All of the meats there are not required, but chicken and tuna can be bought in bulk and help add calories greatly.

Mixed veg can be bought cheaply in bulk too.

Buying wholesale for everything you can works best. If you can find an asian shop or market you can get massive bags of rice dirt cheap.

Dumpster diving. If you haven't at least tried it, I recommend you do. Everything they toss out is kept in it's package and is usually only a day over expiration or a close to expiration.

Also you can find other merchandise which you can use. Last time I dumpster dived at a dollar store I got like 20 pounds of prepacked of cookies (not expired) a cutlery set and 9 dollars in one dollar bills. Before you call me a fatass, I fed the cookies to my chickens which then transformed them into eggs. Free eggs bro.

The shit they throw out at a business is insane.

>> No.658276

>>658267

No, not at all. They still would free-range feed. The cookies just fattened them up and made them lay more. It's basically grain with more carbs which is what they live off of anyways.

>>658271

Yeah. You can also find rolls of quarters from the cashiers register that weren't emptied completely and all other sorts of cool shit. Seeing people be so wasteful makes you really appreciate what you have.

Depending on where you live, fresh vegetables can be really cheap, and they are literally the best thing you can put into your body.

I'm from the States but living in Milan, which is super fucking expensive but the produce is super cheap.

-Rice (my best friend. I eat one or two cups a day.) I like basil and soy sauce in it.
-Spinach (stir fried with olive oil/soy sauce for rice, or raw with garlic salt.)
-Broccoli (I boil it since I don't like it raw and hard)
-Canned tuna
-Clementines and Bananas (more expensive, substitute with whatever fruits are cheap or you like)
-Packaged meats since they are cheap. Meats other than fish/chicken aren't really healthy and more serve to keep your stomach feeling full.
- Nuts, occasionally.

Hopefully that should keep you healthy, full, and cheap.

Cooking your own meals can drop your food expenses from $30 a week to $30 a month if you're cooking for one. And let's be honest -- you're all cooking for one.

Only once I found a fuckton of food in the trash near my local supermarket.

By accident.
I was throwing away my own.

I brought home a 10kg sack of potatoes, a 10kg sack of onions, a few kg of peppers, a few kg of tomatoes.
Only a very few of those were rotten.

Also 3-4 kg of meat, but it was already a bit smelly so I freezed it and fed it to my dog mixed with the regular canned meat.

There was also a sack full of old bread (no molds or anything), which i also fed to my dog from time to time.

Shit was insane.

As far as fruit goes, the least expensive by far are apples.

For veggies, i like "coste" (can't find english translation).
They're as cheap as onions and potatoes, and taste really good.

Also, if you can, go to the street markets on saturday, the prices are half what you get in supermarket.

In turin, at Porta Palazzo, las tweek I bought 10kg of oranges for 3€.
Sometimes you get the same deal for carrots or other stuff, depending on what's in season.

3kg/1€ is quite rare, but 2kg/1€ is extremely common for most produce.

Nuts are super expensive though, what are you talking about wtf.

Shit's pretty cash. As much as I hate spics, they are some pretty resourceful people which I can respect. For instance, there is a large chain of thrift stores where I live and they will throw away broken electronics. These guys will dive in the dumpsters, cut off the cords on all the electronics and strip them and sell them for base copper value.

They can easily get 20 pounds of copper at a single stop. That's easily 40$ in their pocket, not to mention they can do this at several different stores in a single day.

It's some greasy shit, but a man's gotta eat. Besides, making the equivalent of a weeks wages at minimum wage untaxed doesn't sound too bad. Especially if you are illegal.

Go to the international food section.
You'll see those cheap "Ramen" noodle blocks, selling about eight of them for about a buck or less. Red packaging, Y&Y brand.
Pick up broth, soy sauce, sriracha, and whatever else you want.
Buy your meat on discount when it's almost expired.
Buy onions, and that jarred and chopped garlic.
You can now make soup, or fry the damn things, and use whatever meat you can find for cheap. Or no meat at all and go with tofu, which is even cheaper.
So for about five bucks worth in noodles, I can make twenty meals. Everything after that, save for meat, is trivial in cost. Meat or tofu is also optional.
So while you spend one hundred dollars on twenty five dollar pizzas (plus tip), I spend probably about thirty, maybe sixty if I buy meat all the time and don't ration it out.

Lettuce and onions (raw, maybe add condiments), coleslaw salad, steamed broccoli, oats.
