I found this thread on /fa/ and thought it would be relevant here too. If you are rich, do you dress "wealthy"? What kind of clothes does /biz/ generally wear?
I do dress wealthy. Having money is pointless and is a sin, if you don't use it accordingly to your condition. (Not to mention it's bad for the economy to hoard money endlessly.)I wear bespoke suits or the best ready-to-wear ones (Brioni), fine shirts directly coming from the maker, splendid ties, etc. Not exactly conservative business dress, but not the "annoying menswear blogger" look either. I try to be subtle. The rest of /biz/ probably wears t-shirts and teenage sneakers though; not that it's bad, but most of the board is just too young, and poor.
>>638708Obvious troll.
I'm pretty well off but my wife says I dress only one step better than the homeless. My shoes are worn down, and the majority of my shirts have holes. I wear broken-in jeans most of the time, but do have a nice dress shirt and a tie if I need it.I have actually purchased an off-the-rack suit for one occasion and have never worn it since.
>>638710>internet people can't have money, this is a LIEWhat? Do you want me to post pictures?
>>638708>The rest of /biz/ probably wears t-shirts and teenage sneakers thoughYep, I do... if not trolling, you are likely more well off than me as I've only averaged about $110k for the past 4 years. I walked into Dillards a few weeks ago, saw a tshirt for $500 and couldn't understand why it's worth 100 x more than my typical Walmart/Target/Kmart tshirt
>>638729He is trolling. Even billionaires wear t-shirts.
>>638729I'm simply serious about clothing, while I don't care about other expensive things like cars or travels.A $500 t-shirt is a pure ripoff. I pay for artisanal quality, not for vague "luxury" smokescreens. For example, a hand-made bespoke shirt, made by a world-class shirtmaker with the finest cotton, costs $200 to $300. It's very durable too and will last a lifetime.
>>638738Until it yellows under the pits, then it's a $200 washcloth. Seen it happen
Can't you people understand that if wealthy people are wealthy that's because they made a new way for it? Copying them in everything is the exact opposite of that, and will get you nowhere
>>638732I do own and wear t-shirts--usually from the cheap variety, because there's no point spending more than $20 on a t-shirt.This, however, is not exactly the kind of clothing I'm wearing when I>meet a client>speak in front of a crowd>dine in a fine restaurant>go to the opera>shake hands with a judge or a banker...or other things that happen in everyday life.>>638740Fortunately I never had this yellowing problem in my life. A good anti-perspirant may help.
>>638753No, antiperspirant does not. In fact, I've read that it accelerates the process - something about the aluminum in it.Anyway, I do agree that $20 is the most one should pay for an everyday shirt. For $30 you can get something that will button and be acceptable nearly anywhere, including going to the opera with a judge, banker, rabbi, or any other profession.
>>638690nice clothes get you respect.sad but true.
>>638762Not from people that matter.
>>638758Of course, anyone can look appropriate in a $30 shirt, $5 tie and $150 suit. Will he look and feel good? It is another matter--and I do believe it's possible. However, I'm satisfied to own and wear the finest clothing there is.>>638765Caring about people who don't matter is important too.
>>638765I'm in college and I generally wear a button down or polo and raw denim/chinos daily. I come from a pretty well off family, so I can afford what I wear. I stay away from most branding, but I do wear expensive clothing such as Thom Browne or Band of Outsiders because I like the fit. I have noticed that since I started dressing better my Junior year of highschool, I have gotten more respect from my teachers and peers. I think a lot of this is style, and not the cost of clothing, but the two often go hand and hand.
>>638793Yes. When you dress better, you show respect to others, who give respect back to you.
Do you need expensive brands? Definitely not. Do you need to wear a suit? No. But I like the motion of "dressing for the job you want to have".I mostly wear nice sweaters or cardigans (no big brands, no motives, just colors or simple patterns), if I want to dress up I put a shirt under it. Combine with some simple jeans, good-looking leather shoes instead of sneakers. I get complimented a lot and I'm not even that good-looking besides the way I dress.
>>638690>If you are rich, do you dress "wealthy"?Yes, am rich, no, do not dress like it.>What kind of clothes does /biz/ generally wear? For work, I wear off-the-rack suits and the cheapest comfortable shirt I can find, a habit I picked up when working for the government. I can find lots more enjoyable ways to spend $10,000 than on a fucking outfit. On the weekends it's just jeans and a t-shirt, usually, plus maybe some kind of jacket or sweater.
>>638690How is wealthcore any different from Northeastern prep?
>>638844As I understand it, wealthcore can be preppy inspired, but it doesn't have to be.Prep is very traditional and includes a lot "normal" brands such as LL Bean and Polo, while wealthcore is more modern, high fashion, and focused on designer/expensive brands. I wouldn't call this photo "preppy" but it is very much wealthcore.
Don't judge a book by it's cover?
>>638860I make an effort never do so, but clothes affect the way that everyone is perceived whether you realize it or not. I know billionaires who wear old polos and khakis everyday, and quite frankly I would never know that they were rich if they were walking down the street.
>>638865Exactly, most people think I' just assume I'm some black guy that's "trying to act white". I run a successful eBay business and have moved onto Etsy/Ratuken/eBid/Bonanza/Reddit and even Craigslist. When I reach my mark of savings, I'm going full out on my entrepreneurial goal of working with (not for) Samsung/Apple with an product (not idea) I'd present to them. So many ideas stored ready to followup the other. 1. School bus tracking (ad $$$ being poured in from millions of kids/parents)2. App for lazy ass minimum workers3. etc...
Fashion and clothes has been a hobby of mine for 5+ years now. I really wanted to max out this aspect of my life (looking good) and I managed to do it. Here are my conclusions:1) Fit is king. Get your clothes tailored to slim fit (not skinny unless you are a skeleton), handmade or bespoke. I have all of my suits made bespoke to fit my athletic proportions. They look really good. Same with button down shirts. If you know exact measurements, order online from made to measure sites. All of my sweaters are hand made to my exact body proportions as well. No brands, just grandma knitting a new sweater from luxury material (Merino, Alpaca or Cashmere) once every 2 months.2) Avoid dadcore brands. There are some expensive brands that cater to fat, rich businessman. AVOID (Boss, Tommy Hilfiger are examples).3) Invest in good dress shoes (I tried to get shoes and boots tailored, but have determined that just buying quality pair, Italian made, is best solution. One piece leather, 300 EUR and up for good pair of dress shoes). Always have your shoes polished.4) Avoid flamboyant styles like gothninja or spacecore. They scream autism and virginity.5) Most people dress absolute shit. Dressing good gives you an edge.6) Don't be fat. Either be skinny, skinnyfat or ripped/fit. Just don't be FAT. Everything will look shit on you.7) If you can't make a black leather biker's jacket look good on you, you aren't fashionable enough or good looking enough. Notice how it looks cool on people who are model tier.Good fitting and color matched clothes from a no-name or shitty designer will look better than Louis Vuitton that doesn't suit your body perfectly (not sour graping, I have Louis Vuitton in my wardrobe as well)

When I was 18-19 I was autistic with designer clothes and brand names.. Spent a good 10k € on Louis Vuitton shoes and accessories alone.. Now (turning 21 next week) I just buy whatever looks nice and don't pay attention to brands.. I spend my money mostly on experiences now aka trips and so on. Although it is nice to have everything designer ;^)
>>638690>If you are rich, do you dress "wealthy"?no, because:1. you will look like the tryhard moron you are2. you will be a target for pickpockets and criminals3. you will generally look like a snooty asshole>What kind of clothes does /biz/ generally wear?jeans/athletic sweater casually, when I work I usually wear a worshirt and dockers>>638708are you 12? Nobody after age 30 gives too much of a shit about fashion, especially people who have kids. People dress good enough to stay within their company's dress code.
>>638690I have plenty of money, and my style is fine, but I don't dress like a /fa/g.I wear either polo shirts, preppy sweater vests, or dress shirts. Most of the times I wear jeans and converse, but I also like pastel colored tropical shorts. Probably the most expensive things I wear are my Raybans and my Seamaster.
>>638939Don't be fat? Bullshit. Churchill always looked like a boss.Just don't be jelly mound fat.Skinny fat myselfHave one 2000 dollar suit, some Ts and jeans. Good quality over flashy "rob me plz" clothes
protip: if you aren't fat, buy slim fitting dress shirts. Nothing looks worse than the old fat guys at the office with shirts ballooning out the back of their pants.
>>639009Do you still wear the LV stuff you bought at 18? How is it holding up?
>>639069It's still holding up fineAlthough I don't wear the shoes and stuff daily, I do use the accessories (such as wallet) daily and they are fine. But keeping in mind I take very good care of my stuff. I'm sure if worn daily the shoes wouldn't last. Just a side note, I hare brown LV. Shit is complete and utter pleb. What are your thoughts on top tier branding? Think moncler jackets and hermes belts.
>I saw on /fa/ first problem you got. What is dressing wealthy? Like the guy in the OP? I dont wear loafers, neithers do I wear polos. I constantly wear tailored shoes and casual suits though. But is that considered dressing wealthy? I simply like this sort of style so I go with it.>>642788Hermes belts are ridiculous rip offs due to them only being priced at that level because of the brands name. The same way shit like this (http://uk.burberry.com/skinny-fit-cotton-shirt-p45281981)) is a gigantic rip off. However, as soon as the fabric has a specific design that is clearly visible (color combination for example) I would go as far and claim that the piece is valuable. The reason for that is the design process. This shitty white cotton shirt didnt require time to be designed, neither is it unique. However, stuff like Paul Smith Mainline shirt are so ridiculously designed that they are unique in more than on way. Spending 300+ for them is justified in my book.
>>642791Wealthcore is anything that subtly (or not) makes people think you are successful. If you wear nice suits and shoes, it can be wealthcore but it all depends on the presentation. Post a fit.
I'm only in college, but I dress in plain white t-shirts and sweatpants with the same pair of skateboarding shoes every day. I have better grades, a better internship, and a higher hourly wage than nearly anyone in any of my classes. >>644989yeah unfortunately, this is trueeven when you are a little faggot at 16, a lot of money doesnt get you farand the people you tend to know come from similar income circles so there isnt an incredible amount of difference; however its so easy to end up alone with lots of luxury shit and hell, i dont own LV or anything tops i have is a gucci belt thats "designer"... rest is normal people stuffthe only decent thing is my watch, my dad got me a submariner (which btw after stunting on RKOI turned out to be fake, pissed off) but people think its a real rolex so im kinda cool with it.tldr: dont get all that luxury shit if you dont know how to get women without it; with the luxury shit if you dont know how you are just going to end up spending more money
>>645114Sure, why not? I'm 33 and have a net worth of half a million(Manhattan condo, a couple investment properties and equities portfolio+cash)Not hard to believe there are more biz smart people than me and have made more.
>>645120>actually making millions>/biz/LOOOOLIf you are so smart, tell us how you made your money
>>644989You shouldnt be using your designer and expensive shit to get girls. Then you'll attract the bad ones. You get the girls normally, by just talking to them and charm. Once they like YOU, and see that you're loaded it just adds to it.
>>645201I'm that (soon) 21 year old with all the LV shit.. My IP keeps changing.. Keep getting a new ID
>>644989If you have to resort to your wealth and materialistic stuff to get acceptance from others and attract girls, then you're doing it completely wrong. What I'm saying is living frugally is boring, get nice shit and do fun stuff, but don't resort to your stuff for acceptance
>>645212This man knows how it all plays out.
>>645212for some living frugally is fun as a challenge.but it's only fun for them cuz they're boring people... heh
>>638719Actually yes
>>645235What do you mean challenge or not a challenge. It's all mathematics. You can buy a car with 1/10 of your wealth MAX, or else you are pleb. You should invest rest in diversified manner and keep 1/10 in spending. It's not about being frugal, it's about being sane.Don't pretend people buying Lambos aren't living frugally, when reality is they are just super rich and own 20'000'000$.You can be all frugal you want, but if you have shit income, you will forever be pleb. It's all about making as much money as possible to be able to afford the good stuff.I don't want to be "frugal", I am forced to, because I have nothing good to buy for my measly 100'000k$. It's nothing. It won't buy me a Lambo or a house, or a luxury apartment.I'm being frugal, because I Have no choice.

Life is short. You aren't young forever. You need to balance out work and fun. You have to bring something that others can't do, and then a bunch of doors will open. >>644690I shop at goodwill and clearance sales, and I look pretty damned good. Dress, sweater, tights. Being pretty goes a lot further than having expensive clothes. Let's say there's this fat ugly girl, and she's in Prada. Prada comes off, you're left with a porky pig. The brand is meaningless. If you want to look good, in other words, just diet and exercise and take care of your health. It's free, or even saves you money, and it has a larger impact than an expensive pair of shoes ever will. If you put a pig in a suit, it's still a pig. For men, if they don't lift then they'll always lose to guys who do lift, even if they have a Rolex. It's more about dressing to flatter your shape and coloration than it is about grabbing the most expensive thing at the store and piling on expensive trinkets. And of course, if your shape and color are ugly, then all the clothes in the world won't help you.
>>646077Trust me money goes a lot further for making men look good than it does for woman.I know a lot of fat rich guys who get laid a lot.

>>646196Opposite here. There's tons of smalls available. Women are skinny in high school and college, but then get fat usually, and then have to donate their skinny clothes, where I come in and poach them. I get really nice brand name stuff there. And it's excellent for linens. I got brand new curtains there for four dollars, when it would have cost ten times as much new. There are also fat clothes, I guess. I saw a skirt once that I could have used as a tent. >>646143That's gross. I wouldn't fuck a fat guy even if he was rich.

>>645796>You ever seen how Bill Gates dresses? The only people that dress, "wealthy," are people that like to flaunt.Bill Gates wife isn't someone you'd call a hotty, so it's irrelevant. Only billionaires with hot wives are those who flaunt it. Like Elon Musk.
>>646077> Being pretty goes a lot further than having expensive clothes. Let's say there's this fat ugly girl, and she's in Prada.Dude, it doesn't matter what girls wear. In fact, girls in top brands put guys off as they seem unreachable. For men, it's mandatory to flaunt wealth via brands to subtly show your status in society. Girls are all about pretty face, tits and nice body. Men are all about status and masculinity.
>>647100>>647101What about all the poor folks with hot wives? Your entire theory is laughably circumstantial. You even confessed to not being rich earlier in the thread. Yet you continue with this embarrassing little lecture.

I'm a miser. Most of my clothing is second hand, thrifted. I tailor it myself. I tend towards button downs, chinos, sweaters, blazers, and boots. A simple, classic look that fits my personality and mentality, going well with my 400sqft cabin in the woods and beat up 17 year old truck. I'm wealthy, I've never worked a day in my life, and I don't have a damned thing to prove to anyone.

>>648761In my experience most people who worked for their money don't dress any different than when they weren't as wealthy. For the most part it's people whose money was given to them who dress "rich".

I am what you'd consider 'upper-middle' (job paying $110k a year, over $200k in investments, assets, liquid funds, etc) and I do not dress the part. I drive a civic, wear jeans and tshirts most of the time. I keep myself pretty low key because I don't want people to know I'm doing well. Especially women.
