6350294 No.6350294 [Reply] [Original]

Just got back from dinner with the CLS guy.

>asked about ChainLINK, he hadn't heard of it but he did mention SWIFT was looking into DLT/Blockchain so take that as you will

>asked about Ripple, especially in regards to threatening his job, he said there isn't a chance in hell that Ripple will become an international bank settlement layer because of 2 factors: it's just a glorified SMS service, international payment settlement and auditing involves some degree of government oversight and they are the slowest to adopt new technology, so even if banks are keen on moving forward with blockchain, governments don't want trillions of dollars worth of forex being settled using tech controlled by bankers.

I struggled to follow the bit about government oversight because it was very tedious and we were already 3 glasses of wine in, but that was the gist.

A regular neet larper won't be out eating at Brussels for 300 bucks, nor able to fake physical receipts, gving AB more credibility

Think of it like this: You put no money towards a coin of an obvious, self contradicting larp; a small amount of your portfolio towards an elaborate, possibly legitimate larp (needless to be said, but high risk can be objectively worth it) and a larger amount of your portfolio to a somewhat credible larp

There is a difference between front end software and middleware, vs direct transactions of trillions of dollars across borders. If you think the UK gov will allow banks in the UK to use Ripple when settling trillions of dollars you are deluded. CLS settled 11 trillion transactions in one day, that’s the amount of money that needs to be audited and overseen. They are not going to let a bunch of neck beards who printed off 100 billion chuck e cheese tokens handle that kind of responsibility.

>>6353948

I am EXTREMELY skeptical of any coin or token being used for large financial transactions between banks for reasons I said above. Government oversight etc, that being said if LINK has SWIFTs support long term it could operate as a delayed means of b/t, ie not settlement later like ripple (bank buys ripple in country x, send to y, y sells ripple) but rather to send secure info to the other bank of an incoming transaction or interest payment which the bank would credit you then debit the other bank.

The difference between these two may SEEM trivial, but it’s crucial. LINK operates WITHIN the existing auditory framework established by governments and banks, Ripple seeks to circumvent it. This will not be tolerated and I’d be surprised if LINK doesn’t overtake ripple in the coming years. Screencap this. Also not using trip code cause on phone now, but ID checks out.

>> No.6354767

>>6354573

XLM is focused on “micro banking” and allowing fast fluid easy transactions of fiat across borders and especially into poorer regions. The access and exit points may be smaller but the amounts transacted will still amount to trillions in the long run, government regulation is going to step in so fast on ripple and xlm. Mark my words. It’s one thing to operate within a self contained ecosystem, but by the time cryptocurrency has enough power behind it that governments can’t stomp on it new coins will exist that will be better than all of these. In the meantime any coin in direct competition with FIAT (aka xlm/XRP) is going to get rekt by governments. Btc is allowed because btc is currently not actually competing with fiat (total trx rate is low) and ethereum is basically a smart contract platform. XRP/XLM directly threaten the entire government/banking ecosystem that has been established through decades of legislature. One of the core examples of 4chans inability to see the bigger picture is that XRP isn’t a gov shilled coin, it’s actually the most disruptive coin for gov power.

German banks have "now" created the equivalent of PayPal called "Paydirect". France has "Paylib". Every week some fucking bank circle comes up with something similar.
I would like to use ETH network or something, but they wouldn't allow others to see your blockchain data. So they will use blockchain but differently, probably run by swift.

As long they know WHO was fiat->Ripple they practically don't care if the shop just burns the money and calls some guy at the other end "We gots Dollars, give them Dollarz!" Western Union, Money Gram etc. can do as they like as long they tell you who is getting the Fiat.

C'mon man, if XRP was disruptive for the world's govs then why the fuck would CNBC broadcast a live tutorial on how to buy it? And at an all time high I might add. It is obvious to me that Ripple was created in an attempt to undermine bitcoin and reduce its value.

There is a difference between coins/tokens used for transactions between business or even between consumer level bank accounts and transactions done between INTERNATIONAL BANKS for immense sums of money. Seriously guys look into CLS and SWIFT, when money gets transacted from the US to Germany, money has to be “subtracted” from US accts and “added” to German accounts (I’m simplifying here) they don’t actually SEND each other money. As a result banks have IMMENSE benefit to select specific price points at which to conduct these transactions HENCE government and third parties perform auditing/settlement. Ripple aims to solve this by being a third party settlement later but ironically it creates far more problems because ripple itself changes in prices so that a bank in the US can buy ripple at a certain point for a certain price than send that money to Germany but it’s now worth slightly more money when Germany reconverts it to euros. The government will NEVER allow ripple to be used in this way. Why does CNBC shill it? Because unlike what you hear on /pol/, the governments and media corporations and banks are not all on the same team. They each have competing interests and each wants to make more money, their relationship is symbiotic but still competitive. Banks want ripple but if they get ripple they will begin to make the gov obsolete, which is why the gov will never pass the legislature to make ripple a kosher means for international forex settlement in large scale. Which is ripples only use case. LINK on the other hand is just a tool to increase efficiency and security and get some of that “blockchain hype” without circumventing gov.

Good catch, I basically contracted several steps into one line to get the point across. Currently my monero is mostly in a mymonero account I am waiting for hardware wallet availability and just left it as trezor to get the point across that when it’s possible everyone should be buying a small amount of monero and storing it safely.

XRP won't be the international payment settlement service, but it WILL be the global FI internal payment settlement service. And from there, once legislation and regulation catches up, can expand to payment service. Apparently the CLS guy hasn't thought this through too well, or perhaps he's just arrogant. Probably both.

internal payment settlement service literally defeats ripples USP which is to save time and energy auditing due to forex rates by acting as a third party liquid intermediary. Internal settlement is not going to sustain ripples current market cap. Even if it is adopted globally (it won’t), banks will sooner work with gov to create a seamless internal and external transaction settlement standard using high accuracy data to prevent price manipulation. In fact more likely to use something like a beefier version of quantstamp since transacting money isn’t difficult, the challenge lies in who decides the exact time to settle a transaction and proving that price manipulation hasn’t happened, an immutable timestamped blockchain built by gov and banks and standardised/decentralised globally will solve a lot more than ripple. Trust me

>> No.6360091

what is the point of this thread? it should be obvious that banks will never use xrp the token, or chainlink. smaller more laxly regulated money transmitters might get some value out of xrp in the short-mid term but long term they don't gain any value using xrp the public token especially as regulation catches up.

and fundamentally all of these public-chain use-cases only work with closed pathways of IOUs. xrp at that point is only good for paying fees, which could effectively be zero given that xrp the network is entirely controlled by ripple themselves, and they could simply cut a deal for companies.

and as for chainlink, second layer networks will obviously include oracle streams as a tiny part of it. theres no need to have a separate token and network when 90% of all public oracle data is only going to be needed on ethereum.
