College... It's not going to guarantee your success despite your awesome degree of choice OP.

I did the math one day, I started work at 17 and it would have taken someone until their late 20's / early 30's to draw even with someone in a shit tier trade.

I didn't go to college and did a trade. Now I am in an unrelated field and make a couple of hundred grand a year owning my own business.

A BS in math and starting at 300k is bullshit.

>BS in Math
>300k starting :^)

I'm a SEMESTER away from getting a BS in Theoretical Mathematics from a large state school. It's not ivy league, but I got over a 3.0 in the last two semesters.

I want to work in a large midwestern city. I know 300k starting is absolute horseshit, but how realistic is 75k starting before taxes?

Anything I could do besides finance?

Halp.

Should have been doing some internships over the last 3 semesters. If you don't know what kind of jobs you want or could get, I wouldn't hope for a salary that high.

What the fuck can you do that's worth 75000 a year? Probably not much. Nobody wants to watch you draw on a white board for that much.

If you dont already know programming as well, you should probably consider grad school. Idk man, I'm from chicago, everyone in our class who is graduating, except two fuckups, are starting 85k+ or going to grad school. We were forced to do prog by our department advisor, the two fucks ups are the ones who insisted they wanted only pure math and aren't even going to grad school. They have no job prospects and are antisocial, the recruiters just ignore them now. I am not graduating yet, but I like talking and speak with the recruiters when they come. All the recruiters in business (mostly finance, accounting, or logistics) insist we do math+prog, not one or the other, but both. If they can hire one guy to do both jobs, that person gets paid a good deal more for not needing the training. In the end, your soft skills matter a lot to.

It's is a good sector, but 200k starting is ridiculous. Look for the job openings in the major oil fields and you will see that managers with 15+ years experience in that specific field get a bit above 300k. And that's already top salary. Or you can dream this shit. 200k starting. Sure, then with 50 you will make couple millions per year. Top kek.
