doing a bit more maths on me silver;
in the past 20 years silver has doubled in value, but inflation has halved my money's value so that means silver has gone up quadripple (4x) in real value.
If you had bought silver 20 years ago you would have hedged against inflation and made a huge profit. if you bought with even 30% premiums you'd still be up +270% of your initial investment when accounting for inflation losses.
I'm too sleep deprived to be doing maths tell me if that is off.

sorry to say but both your logic and data are off kek
Silver was $7/oz in April 2004
Let's say you bought at $8/oz with tax/premiums included - you made 3.5x
Inflation reduces the value of the fiat that you got today tho, so since the cumulative inflation since 2004 is 66%, that's 3.5/1.66=2.1
so you're up +110% in 20 years
(in comparison, gold spot was ~$420 which turns into +244% in 20 years)

If anyone wants to buy physical PMs and they don't want to hold it for one year minimum, they should probably look into other assets. Unless they're planning to bug out I guess... but then you don't wanna do that with literal kilos of silver in your backpack.
Even if we assume the 30 day time frame is cool, once you count premiums, gold still did better.

The whole concept of silver coinage blows my mind. For thousands of years it's always made sense to use silver coins of various weights to trade everyday goods. It can be divided into small units without losing significant value. It's fungible. It's not subject to decay or rust. It's not as valuable as gold making it perfect for small to medium purchases and yet it's still finite enough & difficult to produce to have intrinsic value.

every fucking country had silver coinage, the US & Canadian quarters/nickels/dines, Indian rupees, British pennies, etc. The more I hold and collect 'junk silver' the more I appreciate it's history as money.

If you have a job you are already a millionaire.

NOBODY is talking about silver or gold, but the price is rising steadily.

All the normies fell into the crypto fud just like the system wanted, and while a few got rich it got hundreds of millions of people to jump in aimlessly.

They don't own silver, they don't own any real wealth. When the time comes even a wagie who has 50oz of silver will become a millionaire over night.

The haves will have and the have nots will have not. Now with the email verification and the system right as israel is in trouble and america is going to lose WW3 that it knows it cannot win, they don't want any news spreading about the financial lynchpin.

They don't even want people to THINK about buying silver or even more towards that.

Can't buy any silver when it takes 2-3 weeks to arrive at your door from apmex and its all sold out during hyperinflation at $1000 an oz, then it jumps to $5000, then $10000 an oz, sorry should've bought under $30!

Is gold being this high up screwing any stackers over with regards for Form 8300? Since its limit is 10k USD, you can't even buy 4 gold 1oz coins now without hitting it. You'd have to go down to 3.
Prior to the price getting like this, youHowever, if your purchase exceeds $10,000 in value using cash or its equivalents, you must complete Form 8300.
Actually, if gold were to somehow hit 10k, then you'd have to file the fucking thing each and every time you bought a coin.

This is what he bought: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285809165664
Archived: https://archive.is/snThN
Picrel is the ebay description.

It's apparently "free shipping" in the USA, but yeah anon got rekt due to his own stupidity. Probably a low-IQ "le silversqueeze" plebbitor with thick brainfog from daily aspartame-soda drinking. He paid $40 to get $11.45 worth of silver (current value of 12.5g). That's fucked up. Hopefully for him, at the very least, he gets a nice-looking coin without any annoying damages on it.

Silver would need to pump to near 4x from here for him to see a profit on that coin; at 4x the current value it'd be worth $46. He might be able to sell it at profit a little bit earlier though, if he adds a premium and try to hype it up; if silver would 3x from here then at 3x the coin would be worth $34 so he might be able to convince someone to pay $41-$45 for it then.

>anons teaching anon that he fucked up and made a bad deal means they're trannies
That's retarded. Picrel. And there's very little "numismatic value" to speak of with regards to a "5 Reichsmark" coin UNLESS it's in super good condition. We appreciate them because they're cool to us, but strictly numismatic-value-wise-speaking "5 Reichsmark" coins are absolutely not rare coins at all. And you can find them on ebay and elsewhere for prices much closer to the actual silver-content value, than $40 which is an EXTREME premium - especially considering he didn't even get to see a photo of the specific coin that he's getting; it's an ebay coin lottery, if he's unlucky he gets one that looks like shit. It would be cool to pay $40 for a super nice looking 5 Reichsmark IF one just wants a really nice-looking one, BUT just buying one as an investment and getting a random one and paying $40 is to be brutally honest a very shit deal. And consider WHAT HE WROTE, which was SPECIFICALLY in response to a post asking about them as investment coins: >>58409635 - quote: "THIS IS THE CHEAPEST SILVER RIGHT NOW" he wrote (the guy who paid $40 for 1 coin containing 12.5 grams of silver!) which is absolutely false and the total opposite of the reality of the deal he made. It's just an amazingly fucked up situation, how he can be so totally wrong on so many levels and then later he doubles-down on his retardation and defends it. And it's really sad, since if he believes what he's posting then he will get extremely disappointed and/or angry when he opens the package. Hope he's ready. It's especially sad considering he's waiting anxiously for something cool like a 5 Reichsmark coin, something he's probably excited about.

>>58410909
>how is he only getting 12.5 grams from 5 5 mark coins?
He's not getting five "5 Reichsmark" coins. He's getting one.
>a single one of those is. more than 12.5.
One "5 Reichsmark" is 13.889 grams of 90% silver. That's 12.5001 grams exactly, of silver.

Does the value of silver scale linearly with purity?
To explain, say 10g of .999 silver is £8 for example. Would the value of 10g of .900 purity silver scale linearly to £7.20? and then .625 would be £5? and this si with regard to solely bullion value, not anything like coins or jewelery.

The question seems to indicate a general misunderstanding. Bullion is always pure, at least three 9s. This includes bullion coins, minted by a government with a face value, like the ASE or Britannia. Nobody actually uses these as currency for everyday transactions. Bullion (whether bars, rounds, or coins) is always priced at spot price + premium for any pleb not taking delivery of full COMEX bars (I believe they just pay spot). Meanwhile, silver coinage from generations past used silver alloys to keep the coins stronger and less prone to tarnish. Like the consumer bullion market, the market values for these coins is based on the purity + premium. These kinds of silver coins can have premiums that vary wildly, depending on the coins, so you'll want to familiarize yourself with any coins your especially interested in collecting or stacking. Numismatic autism can go deep in this field.

Another thing to think about is since it's weight the value transcends time and currencies.

A Roman sesterce in the late Republica ers was 4.5 grams and 95 to 98% silver or 4.2 or 4.4 grams of silver.

Prior to 1965 silver dime was 2.5 grams and 90% silver or 2.25 grams. So 2 dimes, was the equivalent of a sesterce solver wise.

A loaf of bread between 1930 to 1950 was 1 dimes give or take a few pennies. A loaf of bread was half a sesterce. Pretty close to the same amount in silver gram wise.

You're doing it wrong, anon. What you need to do is pay 400% more, trick yourself into thinking you're getting 5X more coins, and then spew diarrhea all over your keyboard and post it here. Otherwise yeah, older coins all have different markets. You'll likely never pay bellow spot price. Just compute the spot price, determine how many grams of silver are in the coin, research what the coins normally sell for, and then you'll have an idea what the premiums usually are.

You should get a feel for what different coin grades look like if you're going to buy collectibles. Look at listings on ma-shops.com for example. You can ballpark what's going to grade (X)F / AU / BU from pictures. If you insist on buying silver coins outside p2p sales in bongland, speculating on numismatic value is pretty much the only way you'll make money. Find the best examples of coins you can get at somewhat reasonable prices and hope their cultural pull increases.

I'm actually not looking to make money but use silver to avoid inflation and simply as another store of value less shit than fiat, if I break even in 10 years (adjusting for inflation) then that's my goal achieved ... and call me crazy, but i have this stupid little worry that governments are going to do something fucking horrific like delete money and ban physical currency in favour of a digital currency and a social credit system, over which they have total control. But that's all sci-fi, there's nothing like that in reality and no governments doing that kind of shit right now hahahahahahahahahaha

is this what you were trying to achieve? also how does this actually make it easier to adapt?
it would really depends on the method, right? if they are engraving it with a cnc you will need a 3d model. if it's flat you could do something with a simply X-Y plotter/vinyl cutter type of cnc. very simple afaik.
but any artist worth his salt could copy it to a blank model for an old school mechanical pantograph, use that to make a die and strike off as many coins as you want.

Here is how an online order works. I go to a website, place the order, pay once, and it's shipped to me.
Here was my experience with an online order from you. Your website doesn't accept orders. You "fix" it. I try again, it still doesn't work. You "fix" it again. I place the order for the overpriced item, and add another thing to help you out. I then go on a trip. I get back from the trip to multiple emails the first one about how you need to nickel and dime me, and bait and switch me, and add an inflated shipping charge.
For some reason on your website, that you fixed multiple times, does not include shipping when you place an order. The shipping was one dollar more than the extra item I added. You don't just send me the item minus the extra thing I ordered and take the one dollar hit. You cancel my order.
Like a retard, I believe that the order was canceled and I was refunded. 8 days later the money was never retuned, so I made a comment here. You then show that you cancelled the order, and then initiated a refund 6 days after you tell me the order was cancelled. There is no chance I would ever purchase anything from you ever again. You have been nothing but incompetent and greedy.

For you get back and never once attempt to reach out or email about the issue shows the level of emotional maturity your have. I understand you not wanting the use my business because of this issue but to never privately reach out to resolve the matter and attempt to lie and ruin my business credibility is emotionally unstable and immature. Be an adult and check your emails. The refund was issued on april 15th, because you requested the shipment be delivered on the 10th of april and was waiting 5 business days for you to respond to the emails and messages left. Your phone was even dialed. I'm not sure what more to say other than you have your money and try behaving like an adult in the future.

As long as you won't have need of those funds in the near term it's a good idea. Generics as suggested will get you the most volume and are the no thought play, but you may potentially be able to eke out a higher return with government coins (also, consider your local tax situation). Gold is easier to store than silver, but silver may result in higher returns. There's nothing wrong with mixing strategies, either.

that way you avoid premiums and taxes on the silver too.

That's also an advantage of cash, plus whoever you trade with probably already paid premiums on that metal and may want some of them back; no reason not to go back into cash in that case. Still, it may work as long as you still fill out the appropriate paperwork using dollar values for big sales and big daddy gov't still gets his due.

It isn't a coincidence that states 23 states have recognized gold and silver as legal tender nor is it a coincidence that 5 states have permitted issue of the gold back voluntary currency.

Kind of a blog but related to /biz/ness, this is a fucking revelation for me.
I was just looking at a map and found a place I'd been with my grandad when I was a kid, he talked about metal detecting in that area, with the hope of finding medieval golden coins, but the area was massively inhabited and had been farmed and worked for years, people came and went there all the time. I knew even then as a kid, he'd only find old farm machinery and cans and nails, and that the area had probably been metal-detected hundreds of times by other people. He lived a life of needless poverty, never achieved anything and died penniless, in a bad neighbourhood, knowing nothing about investing or making money or anything for that matter.
In 2012 I had no money and I remember asking my friends and family if I could borrow a few hundred to put into bitcoin. I think I asked him too. No one helped me, not even the people with wealth to spare. 1btc was about £300 to £600 back then iirc. I bought about 0.005 for £3. Now worth about £250.
Years later I had worked and saved and struggled and managed to put in about 1.5k into btc in nov '22 because I knew that was the dip.
it was at 13k. it's 55k now. I'm currently funnelling my bitcoin profits directly into silver to hedge against inflation and it feels like I barely know fucking anything about investing, but I know infinitely more than my grandad did and have achieved infinitely more.
I'm just flabbergasted all the time at how ignorant my family was. Like, I've BARELY lifted the lid and I'm making money and investing and buying precious metals and making it ... WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY DOING!?!?

I haven't used my protonmail since October but just dusted it off, crazy how dead /biz/ is. Nothing important to report, but I've been doing some hardcore cleaning/restoring of my ancient coins over the past few weeks and came across something interesting in my sack of hundreds of crusty uncleaned Roman coins. Even after cleaning it's pretty rough unfortunately, but instead of another common bronze it's a scarce little high purity silver "Siliqua" from the mid/late 4th century. The empire nearly collapsed thanks in part to monetary mismanagement and debasement in the 3rd century so the the Romans eventually got their shit together and started minting good silver coins again, albeit closer to 2 grams instead of the earlier 3+g denarius. I didn't (knowingly) have an example of the coin type before and definitely need a better one but it was still a fun surprise, never know what will turn up in those cheapie lots of crusty uncleaned ancients.
