58048495 No.58048495 [Reply] [Original]

Dave Ramsey has fervently preached financial advice to Americans for decades — but younger generations are now slamming the white-bearded radio host for offering counsel that doesn’t quite account for the current cost-of-living crisis.

One frothy example is Ramsey’s vociferous renunciation of the daily cuppa Joe. In a 2021 blog post, he claims your coffee habit could be costing you $766 a year, and suggests folks should put those funds toward paying their your student debt, their investments or even a plane ticket.

But young Americans argue they’d rather sustain their mental well-being and hold onto the small luxuries that bring them joy rather than save a little extra cash.
“Self-care is extremely important and if that means buying a $6 coffee every day, do it,” Jarrod Benson, a 32-year-old comedian from Orlando, Florida told Business Insider.
“I’d rather be caffeinated than depressed with $6.”

The hashtag #daveramseywouldntapprove has about 67 million views on TikTok, with scores of users posting videos criticizing the finance personality for being out of touch with reality and shaming their money habits.

Benson, for example, didn’t hesitate to jump on the bandwagon with his own content, featuring himself sipping a pumpkin cream cold brew or getting a $4 Crumbl cookie before cutting to his Ramsey impersonation watching menacingly from a distance.

>> No.58048506

It’s clear that Ramsey’s advice, which often includes living frugally or taking on more work to increase your income, doesn’t quite resonate with younger listeners.

In a recent TikTok, Kate Hindman, a 31-year-old administrative assistant in Pasadena, California, emphasizes that her mental health and quality of life are far more important to her.

“I’m not willing to do anything to get out of debt,” she says. “I’m not willing to eat rice and beans everyday, I’m not willing to have three jobs and not spend time with my children. I’m not willing to forgo my favorite salad on a Friday.”

Hindman explains that her bills are so massive that a little extra cash saved here and there isn’t making a major dent in her debt. (RETARD ALERT)

“The cost-of-living and low wages is to blame for the financial woes of most Americans,” she says. “Being told that we can incrementally make these big differences if we just give up our quality of life for five, 10 years is absurd.”

Dave is a psy-op to get normies to try and be more comfortable with getting squeezed more and more by the creeping inflation caused by their parasitic banker overlords. But the normie impulse towards excess consumerism is also just a stupid trap.

Instead of getting overpriced diabetes coffee at some chain like starbucks where there is so much sugar its like coffee flavored melted ice cream, you could just make your own regular adult coffee that isn't trying to be a dessert.

>“I’d rather be caffeinated than depressed with $6.”
If it was really the caffeine they'd switch to a cheaper alternative. Really it's the sugar. You can't even GET that much sugar in an energy drink: it would literally precipitate out of the carbonated water. There's nothing stopping them from making their own. They're just paypigs squealing like the sows they are for their next corporate dicking.

this thread is full of retards

how is saving a few thousand over the course of 10 fucking years by giving up coffee going to impact your life in any tangible way? Its obvious that the decline in living standards and rising cost of living is driving people into debt, and that this debt is not going to go away by reducing living standards for years.

Even if some meaningful impact to debt could be made with such measures, whats the point? why bother getting out of debt? just debt max and leave banks holding the bag. Why not? they caused the inflation and stagnant wages through decades of mismanagement, yet they never get asked to give up their standards of living to fix things. Why should the plebs do so?

Well if he isn't telling his audience about how they are being scammed by banker parasites and their puppet politicians, he's not really doing them much of a favor from my perspective.

I guess my point is I sympathize with the feeling people have of "something isn't right, things shouldn't be this fucked up" and then just shrugging their shoulders in defeat because they can't figure it out.

This Dave twerp has plenty of time on his hands to figure it out, but let me guess he instead never explains to his audience how a debt based system is different from a sound money system. In comparison to that, telling people to stop buying minor luxuries is just implying the blame is squarely on them. Do you shame the powerless normie who doesn't cut back on some of his superfluous expenses, or do you shame the fat fucking banker scum who creates money from nothing and loans it out at interest? Dave should get real and start emphasizing the latter.

The original article makes sense in one way: buying expensive coffee at a coffee shop won't help you reach your financial goals. There's so many ways around this to still save money:
>buy beans and make french press coffee at home
>buy cold brew at the supermarket for cheaper than regular coffee and take it to work
>drink more black tea
>abuse work coffee privileges as often as possible
Saying you'll get $7500 in 25 years just doesn't reach people in the way he thinks it will. Also doesn't account for inflation, which was roughly 86% from 1999 to 2024.

I could see the argument for buying caffeine because it helps with your work, but I assume his original argument was essentially "too many people are fucking retards with their money out of convenience, here's what you could be doing instead."

Neither is actually correct.

Dave Ramsey is a grifting boomer that still lives in the past. He's an asshole and a fake Christian that makes his entire living off of peddling financial guru courses, peddling mutual funds with high commissions, hosting financial guru seminars and getting ridiculous callers on his radio show.

His financial advice hasn't changed at any point throughout his entire career. Don't go into debt, live below your means and invest in mutual funds. Cool, thanks Dave! Except, he's a hypocrite. His entire early career was about loading up on debt and buying real estate. The only difference is, he got in at the wrong time and got his ass handed to him and had to file for bankruptcy. He then got bailed out by his mommy and daddy. Then instead of trying again in real estate, he became a grifting radio host that sold courses telling you not to do exactly what he was just doing.

On top of all of this, a $5 coffee isn't going to break the bank. That's 15 minutes of work for most people. The little expenses in life aren't what destroy you in the end, even though that's the common trope. The big life destroyers are the big financial decisions. Getting a $100k student loan, buying a $40k car, buying a $400k house, having no medical insurance and getting a $20k medical bill, getting divorced and losing half of your assets, having children, racking up $10k on your credit cards with 24% interest, etc. Those are the big life destroyers, not buying a $5 fucking coffee.

On the other side, all I see is a bunch of losers that want to bitch and complain because they can't make 6 figures a year working a basic 9 - 5 job and made all of the stupid decisions I listed above. Everybody wants to be rich, but none of them want to work for it. It's her fault for fucking a guy and getting pregnant, it's her fault for getting a useless degree. Any excuse to pass blame on somebody else, people will take it.

Overall he has good advice for people with reckless money management, but in some areas he gives some pretty objectively bad advice.
He always prioritizes paying off debt, even if it means selling your home. Selling a home in the last few years would have been a huge mistake to pay off low interest debt. Some of those people may never be able to re-enter the market if their income is not increasing dramatically.
He always discourages people from using public service loan forgiveness. He says it is not guaranteed (it is by law), and he also says to aggressively pay it off. This is the opposite of what you should actually do, which is make minimum payments for 10 years, pay minimal interest and have it forgiven.
I honestly think this point could be a psyop because there has been a lot of momentum among zoomers to never pay back their student loans. Student loans alone account for a massive amount of debt in america 1.7 trillion dollars.

Then he says all the typical boomer stuff like never invest in bitcoin, pay off debt before investing, and bullshit like that.

This is where your logic breaks down: it doesn't matter what Dave did in the past if the advice he's giving now is good, which it is for 95% of people. It's not hypocrisy. I don't think he ever claimed that HE became wealthy doing what he advises. In fact he's not even telling his audience that doing what he says will make them WEALTHY, it'll just make them NOT BROKE. Which would be a significant improvement for more than half the population living paycheck to paycheck with zero savings and maxed out credit cards.

His advice works for retard normies to not ruin their life. They won't succeed but the whole idea is basically designed to prevent people totally fucking ruining everything.

It's obvious paying off debt with a lower APR then you can get from investments doesn't make any sense but if you are dealing with retards you can't expect them to actually be able to keep track of numbers.

If you aren't a retarded all you need to do is be vaguely aware of your budget/income/investments/debt and things you can do with your money and you'll be fine.

$6 bucks for... coffee? Every day That is 2200 at the end of the year. After 20 years that is like 44000 USD If you invested that money and compounded it over 20 years that could literally be like half a million bucks.
Would you sacrifice drinking... coffee for half a mil in twenty tears? Wait you can make coffee YOURSELF less than $0.50 and take it with you to work in a coffee thermos.

Why are normal fags like this?

Isn't Ramsey's financial advice more along the lines of "don't take on debt and live within your means"? Social media foids fixating on the petty luxuries like Starbucks he might recommend curtailing smells like misdirection away from the larger problems their financial illiteracy has created.

Which would be a significant improvement for more than half the population living paycheck to paycheck with zero savings and maxed out credit cards.

you're gonna take advice from this utter dipshit?

>how is saving a few thousand over the course of 10 fucking years by giving up coffee going to impact your life in any tangible way?
Here's the thing. You listen to Dave Ramsay about being frugal, you don't listen to him about avoiding crypto. Then you x100 the money like the rest of us on this board.
Would have never made it if I wasn't frugal. I literally made $550 net as a software dev in Eastern Europe in 2013, except I stayed at my university dorm (accidentally forgot to tell them that I'm employed and not eligible anymore), saved $300 of it and bought 3 radeon 7850s per month.
You fags are complaining about having to be frugal with six figure salaries lmao... Just get 3 roommates, take turns cooking and put your savings into crypto you stupid fags.

Normies kinda have a point on this one. This fucking boomer lived through a time where it was impossible not to make it financially, and now he's telling other people who got the short end of the stick that the problem isn't how shit the economic landscape has become, but that they should cut out anything not essential in order to save money. I mean I get it, that's pretty much what I do because I don't want to be a slave my entire life, but at the end of the day its just a privileged boomer shaming people and not discussing the real underlying problems that have brought us to this point.

Except millenials/zoomers are literally crying that they're only the second most spoiled generation in history, which is absolutely pathetic.
Meanwhile the recipe for success is still what he is preaching.
You'll see poojeets who actually unironically lived on a shitting street in their childhood make it through following Ramsay's advice, while spoiled shits can't skip starcuks for one day without getting a mental breakdown and have to convince themselves that he's bullshitting them.

Well no, the second most spoiled generation would have to be gen X, but you have a point. However you should consider that it's not just about economic prosperity, society in general has been completely doing down the shitter. When you take those other factors into consideration, I really don't think millenials are all that spoiled

Fuck off with your "Gotcha!". Sure, you have the right to starve and therefore participating in a fiat society is consent. But what are the options other than fedposting or a life of monasticism?

That's GenX who still paid 3k for an associates, 1500 for a new car, 70 cent coffees, and houses at most being 85k. All while being on an average of 20k guaranteed as a minimum when you graduate college.

technically, crypto doesn't fall into ramsey's principles, so he has to piss all over it. for instance, if you file for bankruptcy, you have to surrender all your crypto. that one bankruptcy he had must've spooked him good because it changed his life lol. the truth is, times have changed. you can actually file for bankruptcy, wipe all your unsecured debt, cash out your crypto, after your lawyer goes through a few months of processing all your shit, then you'll have sound money with no debt, enough to buy back into crypto, plus it's easier to pay your lawyer his monthly fees, in as little as 4 months after all the processing is done, you will still get accepted for credit cards again. it doesn't take 8 years like it did in his day. now granted, if you file for bankruptcy again, yes this is when shit gets bad and it may take years to get any credit card or loans. it's like getting a DUI, the consequences get much worse, the more you penalize yourself, but one bankruptcy is like your first DUI in most cases, just a slap on a wrist, however being approved for credit cards is easy, being approved for the best ones, not so much, but these days it's even difficult to qualify for the good ones, even if you've been paying them off like a good little goyim because you've amassed too much debt across all the credit cards you possess. it's best to have a lot of credit cards, use only one, the best one with the best rewards program, that fits into your budget, pay it back 100% every month, bank on the rewards. every now and then use or rotate thru your other credit cards for small shit like groceries, pay them off 100% a month. you're credit worthiness will soar and it will be easy as fuck to borrow money for emergencies, just don't splurge like a retard when every business who asks for your FICO store ends up kissing your ass and giving you the VIP treatment when it's 800 plus. don't let it get to your head (i know from personal experience kek)
