it's a disingenuous stat. The reason this stat is a thing is because men do jobs that women don't want to do aka the ones that pay more. This stat is like comparing a walmart worker to a truck driver. No shit there will be wage discrepancies

They don't because the statistic is BS of course. For the same positions and titles women tend to be compensated equally, sometimes even earning more than their male counterparts for certain demographic groups. The discrepancy comes from the fact that women overall tend to choose lower paying career fields, tend to be less concerned with career advancement and instead focus more on family and work life balance, etc. Which are all choices they make, so don't blame anyone else but yourselves for that.
