I am retarded so please explain this to me.
You purchase a call option to buy NVDA at $1000 on February 23rd, so you make profit if NVDA will be $1000 + premium at that date. And according to this image there is a lot of volume relative to Open Interest so it is expected that someone smarter than me is buying it and the price is expected to go up. Am i right so far?
So why should i not just buy the stock at its current price and sell at $1000 instead of paying the premium for the right to buy at $1000. I know that if the price does not reach whatever you want all you lose is the premium, but still. Can someone explain it to me like i am a child.

Or do i just get a loan after the fact that i have succesfully obtained the right to purchase the stock at $1000 when its current price is $1500? Do banks give you a loan if you just show them you can instantly repay? They should i guess.

>> No.57626690

You can also just sell the call before the expiry date. You should google up and read moar

And now for another stupid question to the board: my Schwab/thinkorswim only goes to $795 strike price—how to see the $1000 calls?

>> No.57626706

>>57626552
buying the stock costs you $750. It goes to $1250 you make $500 on a $750 investment, or 66% return.
You buy the Call for $1.75, it goes to $1250, you make $250 on a $1.75 investment, or a 14300% return. If you invest the same $750 as above you make $62000.

>> No.57626713

>>57626649
You can just sell the call. An option will ALWAYS be worth at least its exercise value. You'll even get a bit more because it still has some time value as well.

a higher vol/oi ratio indicates unusual options activity. this CAN mean smart money going for these calls. pretty good ratio and vol for calls around $1000 (considering this is FAR OTM) so it could be a okay play

I'm with Schwab, and when I click 'Options' under -- for example -- SMCI, this is what I see. What I don't understand is what the fuck any of it means. I understand it comes due in the time interval I select, and since it's a call I must select a dollar amount above the current price per share, but... it's all Greek otherwise. And what's an OI?

>> No.57626784

>>57626767
Strike is the level at which you can exercise the call. i.e. a 1080 Call means by exercising the call you can buy the stock for a price of 1080. Bid is the price you can sell an option at and Ask is the price you can buy it at. Last is just the last price the option traded at.
OI is Open Interest; the total number of options that is being held by the market.

Oh i see, and you pay for that leverage with the risk of losing 100% of your investment. Makes sense. Let's say i only have that $750 and the price goes to $1250. It is now obvious i will make immediate profit but have no funds left to exercise my right to buy at $1000. Is there some way to easily loan money from the exchange or something along those lines? Banks are so fucking slow it would take three days to even get a sit down with and employee (for plebians like me).
