How come crypto gaming still sucks? Like how hard is it to make an fps battle royale that players can bet whether or not they'll win a match or a smash bros clone that can have players do wagers against each other with the a small tax going to the devs.

Like what the fuck all games I've seen have just been shit Indians develop or people would make for their Uni project.

Because its a ponzi and no respectable company wants to become associated with that + possible tax implications of ten gorillion events resulting from players using your cryptocurrency.

That would be fun.
Fun is not allowed.

The real application is incentivizing user created content for a video game. It’s just hard to get the network effects started and game devs are pussies who would rather take cash up front instead of trying to do something great

Why there aren't games in which you could do that with real money? Suppose you make a chess.com page in which you could bet money, it would be flooded with stockfish bots and cheaters. Nobody would be playing real chess there. Also, there must be strict local and international laws concerning gambling and videogames.

For instance I make some MMO type game, where the tools to make dungeons are published on my website. In order to run a dungeon there is some crypto toll taken and then given to the person who made the dungeon. Some incentive where players are willing to work hard making good and soleful content for others to enjoy. And the players of the game don't have to wait months for the devs to create some new content for them, the game is evergreen and there is always new content.

Just an example but I think user created content is going to be key in crypto gaming actually working for someone.

thats neat, i agree that is a good way to incentivize content creation

Should I use unity or unreal to create a puyo puyo clone that allows players to wager money on their matches?

That's why I never buy anything with crypto

Couldn't a company get around that by using a stable coin though?

cheating is not a problem to any game dev with the slightest bit of creativity. It's possible to make competitive games in which hacking is either useless or the standard. if everyone is allowed to have a "hacked client", then no one has an unfair advantage. If the default provided client is already hacked client tier, then cheating is not even possible

Zero incentive to devs. Why a crypto/nft marketplace system when you can centralize everything and take a cut of every transaction?

>> No.57567492

Because it can be ponzi where you incentivize everyone to get their friends to play and market for you, so you ultimately make more money.

That’s how roblox works, but they use real money instead of crypto.

To answer OP: fun, good games are hard to make but they make tons of real money. Adding crypto would only introduce legal risks, security risks, and incentives to cheat. Realistically, very few devs are capable of making a good game and also taking in the added overhead of crypto, and those companies are already raking in huge money.

There’s also the marketing aspect. Real devs spend roughly half their budgets on marketing. Crypto marketing is its own beast where you can’t market on normal channels like google or fb, and virtually every successful crypto campaign involves doing something risky or outright illegal like wash trading and paying influencers under the table.

I want an open world Final Fantasy type game with a battle arena where you can wager on your fights and other people's fights. And also while you're walking around outside of the towns you can get jacked and lose some SOL/ETH/BNB/AVAX, or attack others for theirs.

>> No.57568575

The real answer is that every single fucking company that does this insists on using their own cryptocurrency that gets generated in-game, so it's inflationary and the USD value can ONLY depend on whether the game is fun enough for people to want to buy it. This will NEVER fucking work.

What they should do is make an initial $10 buy-in when any player starts the game, and then players can essentially gamble as much as they want in a PvP environment like RuneScape with PvP. This would actually work.

The reason they won't do this is obvious though. This model doesn't require any new crypto token, since you're just buying $10 worth with your own money. Abe because there's no need for a new token, it's not as profitable for the starting company. Indians and chinks see the profit margin and will never go for it.

Yep, and every single MMO with an in-game economy was technically using centralized cryptocurrency before decentralized crypto ever released.
