How do you continue to care about wage cucking? I cant find the umph to bother wanting to improve my current skills or do much beyond the bare minimum/do just enough to look better than half my team mates (which isn’t hard working with diversity hires at a large globo homo firm).

I have a 7 figure portfolio and still maintain my job. Here's how you should look at this: How much passive income is your portfolio producing on a monthly basis? How much is your job paying you on a monthly basis?
Now what's the ratio of passive income to salary? How does that ratio compare to the amount of time you spend on your job? If the ratio of passive income to salary is absolutely massive then you shouldn't be working anymore.

Realistically though you can probably get like 6% passive income annually after inflation. So now take 6% of your portfolio. Is that amount several times your salary, like 3x at least? If not you really should not quit.

I hit 7 figs just recently. I work a decent desk job still. I want to take a sabbatical or something with plans of writing a book or building an app. Then I try to examine myself honestly and find I just gravitate to surfing the net and watching TV when I get free time. I can’t think of anything to discipline me besides work. I don’t really need the pay right now. I don’t really have good answers

Also I have a kid and wife and we are attempting to live in one of the highest cost of living neighborhoods in the US. Average house price here is something like $2 million and a decent house starts at $3 million. It really makes you feel small.

This. I'm seven figs also (1 mil port + 1 mil house paid off) bringing in 10k post tax/mo. First, my house I'm still a little embarrassed by as really you need a 2 mil house to have it look proper. Second, obviously not even close to enough money to retire (barr minimum should be 100k annual passive which would require 2.5 mil at a safe 5% withdrawal rate which isn't even safe. 2.5% withdrawal rate is safe which would require 5 mil). I will say though if I get fired or burnt out I would take a year sabbatical burning 100-200k on travel and women.

It doesn't get any better anon, I am mid 7 figure, and I am still a virgin.
Maybe at 8 figures things will start looking up for me.

OP here in case ID changes, Oh man I have 0 trouble maintaining my current gig. I actually have been told I exceed expectations. My issue is to jump to the next level and job hop into senior/app engineer/DBA type roles I really have to study up and learn way more SQL/general database stuff which I have 0 motivation to do. I get all my regular shit done but I just don’t have the fire under my ass to make me want to learn further because to be honest I don’t care that much about IT, it’s alright and way better than manual labor but not something I just study in my free time when I already have extremely fulfilling hobbies, friends, relationships etc. I don’t want kids so having someone to provide for isn’t there for me to get me to step it up. I’m going to be retiring this bull run (may still work part time) so the motivation to really step up my game/job hop to a higher salary to get a wagie (((mortgage))) and rental properties is the only thing that even slightly motivates me to want to do anything.

You don't, it's still not enough to quiet. I just slack and bullshit around at work nowadays, there is no reaon to aim for a promotion anymore. Pressing F5 once gives me more on some days, than said promotion would give in a year.

Your story is the most realistic. 200k net actually lines up with the amount of money you have, if you got a good job out of college.

This >>57284581 guys is ranting some weird shit about 3x salary. You need $600,000 / year passive to quite your $200,000 or less job? Doesn't compute.

Having a nice, stable job allows you to make better investment decisions. I don't need the money, so I can take a more measured, cycle-long approach. Peace of mind means no short term gambling and no dumb decisions.

If I needed the money, I do not believe my decision making would be as good.

I am only hanging in there to keep slurping equity at this startup. Otherwise whenever I get fired or quit, I’ll probably just work the night shift at Costco or maybe fast food to talk to women
