But way back when i was looking for jobs everything seemed like a scam. I had just graduated and had been looking for a marketing job. It seems like every one i used to get an interview for is a "sales to management" position that is just a pyramid scheme or something akin to that

My rule of thumb is "do they have a product I'd be happy to market?". I find that I can't work in companies that sell horseshit to customers, even though their business model may not be an employment scam.
