The problem with "stacking" precious metals is that it takes advantage of lower-income (and lower-IQ) people's banal consumerist desires and deceives them into believing their collecting is actually investing. This is why you constantly hear "stackers" say things like, "I can't wait to get paid this week so I can buy more!" or things like, "I have to sell some of my stack to pay my bills this month." This type of buying and selling mentality never occurs with investmenting. You'll never hear someone say "I just lost my job, but I really want to buy more Apple stock during this dip!" Nor will you ever hear someone say "Always buy bonds. Never sell them. Simple as."

Stacking is also the worst sythesis of consumerism and right-winger doomer fear too. Like preppers who think the world is just months away of devolving into Fallout-style post-apocalypse, stackers too cling to their collection, because they think it'll somehow protect them (or even make them wealthy and poweful) in a post "collapse." This fear is dangerous in the mind of a lower-income, lower-IQ, and lower-status person, because it serves as a reinforcement to justify the purchases and grow a collection that they often can't afford. The obsessive and compulsive desire to "stack" begins fueling delusional fears of collapse, and even worse, it usually devolves into them desiring for such a calamity so that they can be proven right and fulfill their sick power fantasy that's take root in their mind.

To the few stackers who just enjoy coin collecting as a hobby that you can afford, you should be ashamed of yourselves for contributing to the manipulation of such vulnerable young men. You prey on their basic emotions of fear and safety and encourage them to make poor financial decisions, while they fall down dangerous ideological rabbit holes that lead to racist, antisemitic conspiracy theories that futher perpetuate harmful stereotypes and failed, genocidal ideologies.

Sup' frens,
What's going on today?
Here few craps i got from a lot for relatively cheap (me = happy).

Just read in diagonal the end of last bread. Can the anon who purchased fake slabbed chinkoid coins give us some updates about his refund demand?
First thing i learned when i started to collect numismatic coins not long ago was to avoid like plague any chink/nip/asian coins and chink sellers. But it's true it sound very tempting to see a $1500 coin selling for $20 and thinking "maybe i'm the first one to notice this auction?" That's how they hook noobs like us, with the promise of a great treasure we are the only ones to have found yet, even tho we just started coins collecting, becuz of course we are lucky geniuses.
And the feeling of urgency to get our hands onto it because "somebody else can find it any second now" obfuscate our judgement and force us to hasten a decision we didn't have propper time to evaluate. Chinks are incredibly perfidious.
That said, this "lost treasure in a granma drawer" scenario can't work with slabbed coins, so that was extra stupid to believe somebody would go through the hassle of grading a $1500 coin to then sell it for 30 bux...

oh they've been heard. You're just saying what I spent three years saying over and over. And IQDELET spent 2 years saying.

But the reason I mostly stopped saying it is because I realized I was making some false assumptions about the people here. And more importantly, the motives of the people here changed over time. Their reasons and methods have evolved in the last 4 years considerably. It's condescending to assume everyone here has the same beliefs, and those people also can't grow with experience. >At the end of nearly every interview starts listing off his latest deals

Thats whats put me off him now, he discredits himself shilling his own deals where if he would just stick to what he talks about (Which to be fair to him he's 100% right on) he'd have far more credibility and would get way more business but he cant help himself from going full fucking jew at the end of interviews.

Unless your willy is pyramid shaped, here's the problem. You'd need to cut the mould. You can do it with real willy because willy flesh changes shape and size. A better way would be to use the original moulding kit, but instead of pouring in the latex mix (or whatever) use wax. You can then melt the wax out of the plaster mould before you pour the silver

the bigger problem all of your predecessors encountered is that one troll... I mean dissenter... alone is easily enough to swamp the entire thread for days or years. Two is well over capacity, and three is just absurd.

you have an audience of maybe a dozen at a time here, and most are going to ignore you. Leaving you arguing over dozens of posts with the same two or three people, day after day, year after year.

Not a huge population in the thread
Most won't engage with you
Your posts or mine just drive people away making the problem more pronounced.
Not a huge turnover in users, so you're not exactly reaching a huge new audience with every post or anything.

This is an awesome coin, looks more like a weak strike than circulation wear was responsible for the softness of the rim in front of the big "L", the grubby crusty spots will clean up easily too. I have a few French billon coins similar to this that circulated here in North America, they all got worn to shit so the original mint luster on yours is really impressive, let's see the other side! >I don't understand the hostility you stackers hold to outside perspectives, or that the validity of said opinions is based on a person's income.
One or two things I've noticed with that. Usually the hostility to outside opinions is generally due to those opinions coming here with the idea we're in metals solely for the dollar gains. Those who've lurked here enough know we're in metals for the financial safety not gains. There are some in amongst us who few and far between. Although to be fair, a good portion I believe have and will exchange their metals for dollars or whatever currency is available to them if the price is right. For the most part though, metals are the safe haven we flock to and the populations as a whole do when they're in fear. We got a glimpse of this back in March when those few banks went under. Another thing regarding the hostility is because they come here bragging about their gains or their high income such as yourself without proof. Which is why proof is asked for so often. To prove you're not a lying cunt coming here with the purpose of disrupting this general for the lolz.

It's hard to tell without it in-hand, but what appears to be scratching might be the original rough surface of the planchet. Maybe that part of the strip of metal that they cut out the blanks from was made improperly and was rolled too thin, then simply didn't get a proper full impression when it was struck? Does that "scratched" part correspond with the apparently worn but possibly just weakly struck part of the other side? If so then maybe it's just a manufacturing flaw and is actually undamaged and high-grade. Regardless, I really like it and think that one is a keeper. $100 seems low for the Testone, I'd try to get closer to $200 and then you'd have everything fully paid off!

looks like the rim denticles are missing indicating weak strike/thin planchet, might be a cud at the rim, the lines appear to cross the struck lettering, and it almost looks like brockage or lamination by the rim. A lot going on there.

I definitely don't have a good sense for what that one would fetch but my impression is that $180-200 would be reasonable. If it were mine I'd put it up for $220 OBO and hope someone offers at least $160-180, preferably more of course.

Sweet! That's definitely an old Ptolemaic bronze, probably a Tetrobol (4/6th of a drachm). It's really hard to properly attribute them (I haven't figured out how to differentiate them yet anyway), so it could be as old as Ptolemy II or from well over a century later. In that condition I think $100 would be a fair retail price you could sell it for reasonably quickly so it depends what you'd want to spend on it, I personally would be quite happy to get it for ~$45 or less

Whatever caused those striations, they really don't look like post-mint damage to me, not any sort of grinding or filing I've seen anyway.
>>56962028
That's a helpful pic, I can't be certain but I think it's some sort of manufacturing flaw/defect as Bob observed, some sort of lamination issue plus a weak strike in that spot could be at play. The lines crossing the lettering aren't something that necessarily indicates PMD, especially on old weakly struck coins.

I'm thinking the planchet was flawed and either due to getting mechanically pinched too thin or overlapping another strip when being ran through a roller press, or (de)lamination loss caused the lines, so a weak strike where the die didn't get filled wouldn't obliterate the lines on the lettering.

While i have you here, any idea what this could be?
The 2 faces against each other reminded me of Janus, but on the flip side it looks like Zeus on his throne. Since Janus is roman and Zeuse is greek, i can't reconciliate this.
Also i tried to look up for Janus coins on numismatic websites, but they almost all had a big beard, while here it's quite feminine traits and the faces seems to wear a kind of diadem made of beads.
Are the two faces from two different people maybe? I'm lost.

Yours as well m8, you're definitely right that it needs to be studied under magnification but I think chances are high that it's in fact an unusually high grade undamaged example of that type, probably more valuable than frogbro might be thinking.

Here's a shittier one where that parallel metal grain structure and weakly struck edges are displayed, if they got €120 I'm sure his is worth rather more:

>I do love it when mint errors get sold for cull/damaged prices.

A few months ago an anon bought a cheap silver Draped Bust (half I think) that looked like it had a patch of nasty scratches on the reverse but apparently they were just planchet adjustment marks, that's how they were made occasionally so they'll get straight graded and slabbed and can be flipped for good profit, I didn't know about those before so was quite impressed with anon's savviness.

>planchet adjustment marks
that was the term I was trying to think of a few posts back... though now I saw the closeup I think your interpretation of frogbro's coin is the correct one.

I missed the draped bust, I would've loved to see that. I had a similar case, I kept running across a certain token being sold as "extremely worn." Unusually low prices for the maker and location. I bought them, I like cheapies even in poor shape. But after I had collected a dozen or so I noticed they all had the same "wear" in the same places. Also a really thin planchet. So I talked to other collectors, got about 20 pics together to show that the entire census was "extremely worn." I submitted the info to NGC and got my best example slabbed AU Weak Strike when it normally might have gotten a VF20 at best. Turned an entire run of low priced "worn" coins into perfectly good but weakly struck ones. I like that stuff. Autism I guess.

Hell yeah, autism at its finest! I like how you sneakily acquired for yourself the finest condition example before letting that cat outta the bag lol. I don't have any personal examples quite like yours but I'm pretty good at spotting "diamonds in the rough" that others overlook because of poor first-impression appearance or characteristics. It's always important to read deeply into what you're looking at and rely upon your own eye and judgement first and foremost, the tag or title or description should be a distant second. Sometimes the most humble things are the most special.

In unrelated news I had located and bought a copy of the 1939 Maggs Bros catalogue 672 my cheapie Babylonian tablet was sold through and tracking says it's getting delivered tomorrow! I'm in contact with an Assyriologist who does translations but he says it's an unusually complex tablet and he needs even better pictures than the ones I took this morning and thought were good. Since there are 40 pages dedicated to 100 items in the catalog I'm hoping it contains at least a partial translation/summary and more provenance info, it's one of the more exciting acquisitions I've made in some time.

>The problem with "stacking" precious metals is that it takes advantage of lower-income (and lower-IQ) people's banal consumerist desires and deceives them into believing their collecting is actually investing. This is why you constantly hear "stackers" say things like, "I can't wait to get paid this week so I can buy more!"...

The exploiting those with income ("low" to slight excess) under the guise of financial security is mostly done through the marketers, businesses, and "shills" online which all try to grab them premiums - the concept and principle behind stacking PMs as a commodity or physical asset is a sound, steady one: something which has been around for a good while. This "you'll hear X say this but nnnnoooooottttt from Y!" bullshit is your example - low IQ people exist all around and for your example it could be "Well my stock in X fell a shitload but maaaaaayyyyybbbbeeee it won't continue the obvious downward trend despite me not looking into why it's happening!".

>Stacking is also the worst sythesis of consumerism and right-winger doomer fear too. Like prep...

How in all fuck did you get these derogatory, ad hominin based viewpoints about stackers? From here? One single node on the PM stacking internet? You, sir, unless went to every single site and forum with stackers and did a survey about their personal beliefs, should be ashamed of yourself for assuming anyone's personal beliefs. If we want to play this silly "preying on emotions" game then the whole stock market, including this, all plays off emotions. Business, marketing, society ALL plays off Man's emotional fragility, vulnerability, and desire for stability.

>Why donate if you hate charities? it'd be ironic to donate if I hate charities overall since it's natural for them to use them donations
>Why buy alcohol (or drive) if you hate drunk drivers? It'd be ironic if I complain about drunk drivers killing people yet do the very things they did. Very hypocritical as well.
>Why use weapons (knives, guns, blunt objects, cars) if you hate manslaughters? You're one step away from being a manslaughterer yourself so it's risky and equally ironic if you complain about the rising manslaughter rates or crime yet use these items. Sad and ironic.
>Why use pain relief medication (legal or illegal) if you hate drug addicts? Ironic how we punish them hard or bitch about them immensely.
>Why buy gasoline if you hate rioters? Pure irony to complain about the damage while refueling your car.
>Why use the internet if you hate spyware or ad sites (regardless of any scripts you're running)? If you truly cared about your identity you wouldn't be online or use anything but cash while wearing a ski mask.
>Why buy anything if you hate Corporations? You hate the manipulation and money games corporations do? Then stop buying in everything since all businesses do it. From charities to big name they all do play financial crap, pure hypocrisy if you buy something while hating businesses.
>Why breathe if you hate pollution? It takes more than reusing on your part to assist with the environment, and with every breath you take it's like giving the thumbs up to polluters.
>Why go outside if you hate insects? Insects rule the outside. You're a pure hypocrite taking one step out your front door and levels of irony only intensify with each step.

Your entire post could be applied to the entire American consumerist hamster wheel slave system.
>You'll never hear someone say "I just lost my job, but I really want to buy more Apple stock during this dip!"
Wrong, I heard BTC bros all the time saying how they're going all in on BTC, sold their house, liquidated all their assets, YOLO, FOMO, etc. It gets even more desperate, deranged, and irrational when it comes to LUNA or DOGE or myriad other worthless coins.
>Stacking is also the worst sythesis of consumerism and right-winger doomer fear too.
The fact that you use "right-winger" gives you away, and it means that most likely all your forthcoming responses will be in bad faith. Did you know central banks are stacking gold at rates unprecedented in the last 40 years? Did you know that they are actually worried about financial collapse? Here's your sauce: https://news.bitcoin.com/dutch-central-bank-director-props-up-gold-for-financial-collapse-scenario/
>To the few stackers who just enjoy coin collecting as a hobby that you can afford, you should be ashamed of yourselves for contributing to the manipulation of such vulnerable young men
>vulnerable young men
You sound like a PhD student pursuing some moronic liberal arts degree with zero utility, and overcompensate for your lack of actual intelligence by producing this stale, trite, left-wing horse shit.

Precious metals, in actuality, are diametrically opposed to consumerism, as they teach you the importance of savings. And the downside risk is minimal relative to the upside potential. But liberal arts students like you don't understand mathematics or hard sciences or logic so I won't really bother continuing.

I live for those vibes; the energy and intent transference from the original owners/users into the item that persists through the millennia and can still be sensed intuitively when holding special pieces. One of my favorites is my little bone-handled riveted Middle Bronze Age dagger that was preserved in a bog in the Netherlands, an unbelievable cheapie because the detectorist assumed it was more modern. All the little microabrasions and knicks and usage polish on the handle and sharpening marks and the mysterious Circumpunct symbol cut into both sides of the blade make it an exceptionally rich and potent thing to hold and ponder over. I'm not going to make youtube videos or post about it on high-traffic faceberg groups, but I genuinely want to see the few dozen /pmg/bros here improve their stackin' game. A few anons scattered around the world won't ever materially diminish my access to cheapies, I have an excellent instinct for it too so even if all anons here knew every bit of info I do they'd still lack my intuition and experience, I hope at least some develop it on their own though, stacking at well below spot is beyond comfy.

What I said was that you are using ad hominin attacks on collectors under the guise of logic and "rationale" to defend your statements instead of going after the concept of PMs itself. You go after "shills" (intentional and unintentional) when they exist on both side (pro and con) yet don't bring up how JPMorgan brokered the biggest deal in his time using a check because gold is heavy which equally hinted how gold wasn't the end all, be all of currency. Your counter to both my statements was to attack me, not to counter my arguments.

Instead of attacking others, trying to feel superior via associating with these ""crazy"" people, using ad hominin as logic, feign interest in arguments, acting like you're always right which fuels shill accusations, filling these threads with whiny, mostly off-topic posts why not engage? If you don't like people here being ignorant about safety deposit boxes and feel they should over the risk of thieves? Why not post arguments in favor of the boxes OR why not post shit about how to creatively hide stuff in your house?

Personally I don't like safety deposit boxes for the aftermath consequence: if you die with no will mentioning accessibility for others it's an utter pain to get access to said box. Beyond that safety deposit boxes seem fine with me if you have that amount of PMs and comfortable with putting them there.

Once again, I must reiterate that I'm not safety-deposit-box anon, nor am I Bob, nor a transgender person, and I'm also not Silver Miner Anon, or anyone else. I am just me, and I stand by my original thesis (which has yet to be critically addressed) that states "stacking" takes advantage of the needs and fears of lower-IQ, lower-income people and leads them away from financial stability and into dangerous conspiracy theories under the guise of "investing". Thanks bro, it's definitely one of the finest pieces of any type that I own. I have no idea what the market would determine its value to be as it's fundamentally unique but I'm sure it's worth several times its weight in gold.

>I'm curious about your investigatory work to determine the period it was from. What put you on the trail of the middle bronze age era

That style of riveted blade is pretty widely distributed, the technical advancement of peoples in different parts of the world at any given time varied widely but IIRC that style in the Netherlands would probably place it around 1,200-1,600 BC. I'm not 100% confident so should research and study more to try narrowing that range.

>ps 2 : the promised pics from the billon's double sol

Amazing pics, I'm almost certain that is a manufacturing flaw and not damage. From what I gather those coins were cranked out in large quantities so quality-control wasn't a big concern. They weren't "beautiful" high purity silver issues so few people would have cared to preserve them in good condition, really nice ones like yours seem to be quite rare now. It's a real winner fren, I hope you keep that one.

Come on, you at least gotta give him that point, a bit.
Just look around here. Lots of people buying all kinds of meme rounds or other overprized "nice" items. Sure, most just go for the best ratio of price and recognizability, but there's a significant amount of people who consooom silver. Granted, it's always gonna keep its base value (unlike, say, funko pops) as a metal, but if it weren't for those guys, 99% of pics in here would be shitty buffaloes.

In the absense of healthy relationships, sound investments, and belonging within their communities, they band together online, where they foment radical anti-social identities and resentful theories about how the world (or economy) works, generally blamming a minority class for all the perceived wrongs and personal injustices.

I will slightly apologize but as I posted before, if you cared to read my few posts, I mentioned not liking off-topic fillers so I had something on topic (the deposit boxes since that's PM related which has been debated before). If you *cared* to engage then you'd see said sentences and notice my comment.

As I said your original thesis is done by this market, sure, since it's a business and market; congratulations you've pointed out the exploiters in all these income-generating markets. Anything meant to give you profit of sorts will definitely provide an opportunity for exploitation. What you *didn't* do is critique the concept itself, just pointing out the obvious and describing the victims followed by ad hominin attacks on hobbyists or stackers.

What have *you* said that's been concrete, sound, solid and entirely flawless that isn't
>People are susceptible to crazy thoughts
>They can be exploited, spending far more money than they actually have
>People will blindly toss money at something they believe in
Nothing there is specific nor exclusive to PMs, so again it sounds like you're just attacking people and not the concept itself. Probably my last filler post so respectively go metaphorically fuck yourself with a tire iron Mr. "Everyone I don't like is a right-wing sex obsessed conspiracy theorist".

Dark corner you say? Yeah, this site has its flaws, but it's one of the last bastions of the old internet left and compared to hellholes like reddit, it's pretty OK.
Also, I don't see anything self destructive in putting a few percent of my net-worth into physical metals. At best, my children or grand children will inherit a nice stack to get them started (as did I), even though they don't need it since everything is fine anyways and at worst, it might help me get back on my feet, should fecal matter hit the rotational device.
Also, it's a fun hobby.

It will be a catastrophic cascade offset by desperate inflation.
Basically everyone is carrying around monopoly money and a "portfolio" that says Counterparty-A (B,C & D) owes me $X.00
The problem is no one is going to be able to continuously make these payments that are equivalent to real resources in today's valuations. People strut around with a portfolio that says "I get paid $25,000 per quarter. I made it! I am now retired and I can comfortably live in perpetuity! Not only can I live below my means but my assets can still continue to GROW!".
This is all a facade, however. That $25,000 will buy less and less and less and to do so everyone will be rapidly impoverished. Taxes will increase. Benefits and insurance will decrease.
These little proxies of wealth will just evaporate before your very eyes like water leaking from a cup.

>I expect it's something really cool just given the provenance. Can't wait to see what the catalog reveals.

Bros... I got the catalogue...

Upon reading entry #1 describing the Babylonian tablet my instinctive reaction was a resounding
>HO-LEE-FUK!!!

Read, then re-read pic related several times. Not only was this tablet 10.5 GBP, much more expensive than the 3 smaller and younger 5.25 and 7.5 GBP tablets (4th tablet on the next page), but it is quite larger and more complex too.

Its historical and religious significance is way better than I could have hoped, besides indeed being from the reign of the famed law-giver Hammurabi whose name alone would confer great value to any basic bitch receipt/contract for shipments of barley or the like, it seems to be a document dating to the dawn of the Abrahamic/Judaic faith and includes as witnesses to a significant land property transfer:
>"the names of several witnesses, some of which are *extremely important* as being very early Semitic names, at a period not long after the migration of Abram"

...

Bros, I think I hit the jackpot. We all know how much rich billionaire Christians and Jews love to spend on ancient coins and antiquities relevant to the early history of Abrahamic Monotheism, so an artifact with the names of the primogenitors of the Tribes of Israel would be of *extreme* interest to those richfag collectors. It is completely legit too, having been on the market decades before the ~1970 cutoff as per the UNESCO convention on antiquities and cultural heritage, so is worth much more than the same tablet without such provenance. This $294 cheapie may well wind up paying off a good chunk or all of my debts and then some, feels like I'm dreaming frens this shit is astounding.

Blessed digits. The weights of the cast lead bullets varied widely, ignoring outliers the smallest common/standard weight was only 25g, but I have others that were monsters, weighing up to ~250 grams and I've seen even bigger ones. Just dropping a half pound chunk of lead on your toes would cause problems, but imagine how devastating they would've been at 150-200+FPS? More kinetic energy than carried by almost all modern bullets at muzzle velocity, and instead of just going right through someone they'd smite a poor bastard with a crushing blow transferring all that energy into their pulverized bones and ruptured organs. Brutal shit.

I read it. I would need to reread it because I think maybe I missed some of the nuance. But it is 100% true that mechanisms are in place to facilitate computer/brokerage trading. And this tenuous ownership is also something that is being "double dipped" to collateralize derivatives. So we all seriously have some problems where if shit blows up, someone is going to come knocking at your broker looking for the exact same shares you think own. And they might have a more legally justifiable claim than yourself. I am not sure they can pull off some sort of great taking. But the leverage in the system sort of got everyone to "buy in" and add a layer of protection to all of the leverage out there ready to collapse.
I will happily keep most of my wealth in PMs until the bond market implodes.

>I'm not Bob
sure you are. Bob isn't a person, bob is someone that rails against stacking in a thread about stacking. Bob is anyone that sees a thread about something they don't like, and instead of ignoring it, they come in and bitch about it. Usually in a longwinded, prolix, verbose, condescending, effete manner. You are very definitely bob.

I get a stronger feel from that dagger, just because it was almost certainly used to kill a person or two. Great piece.

nice. I'm seeing a gap on the lower rim, a little space in the metal that seems to confirm some lamination defect in the planchet. Still going with scrapchad's assessment on this, I think that's probably a mint error rather than later damage.

Congratulations! I'm very pleased to read this... such a great feeling when you win big!

Looked like maybe Lassen posted some stuff for us and got banned again. Wonder if it's the jannies taking him out on their own or if /pmg/ still doesn't understand him.

Came into some precious metals recently and not sure what to do with them.
Do you guys think of them as an investment that you will one day sell for more than you bought it for?
or as emergency apocalypse money that you will hold forever in case we revert to a barter economy?
Or are you collectors who just like having it?
Don't tell me that it's real money and USD is fake, BC I can only buy groceries and pay my mortgage with one of those
