As to reliable auditing I mean plenty of examples of fraudulent financial statements in the west as well, so I'd say that's not China specific. a recession can happen while the curve is still inverted, it’s just rare. in this case, the fed did wait longer than normal to start raising rates, which means the curve didn’t invert until later, and likely means they won’t cut rates until later which would mean the curve wouldn’t uninvert until later, which might be after we’re already in a recession. the unemployment rate one though is 100% accurate and the recession usually starts almost immediately after it happens (happened in Q4 2023). Ben talks about it in this video along with a bunch of other indicators that, while technically “green” right now, are almost all elevated and many are at levels that they basically never reach unless a recession is imminent (many of them are like only 1 in 10 times since 1950 did they reach this level without it being a recession).
