Blood Meridian is a good book. It's just about how violence is part of man's nature and is actually a form of expression that we restrict ourselves from expressing and give a monopoly to the state on. It's why there is such a rise in mental illness and corruption in society. It's also about how witnessing evil carries burdens on the soul similar to participating in it. Evil lives on in our minds as witnesses.

>the fundamentals behind the dollar falling just got crushed by ECB

>this is the top. the rally will not continue as the dollar reverses.
>the dollar has gotten completely crushed because investors/traders/institutions expected that other central banks would continue to aggressively raise interest rates relative to US monetary policy; that the Fed would pause, while ECB continued to hike aggressively
>this is no longer the case, after ECB release today
>in other words, all the dollar shorts are now trapped, all the euro longs are now trapped; they are forced to quickly cover or sell their positions, forcing dollar higher
>the market rallying was predicated upon DXY falling, and falling below 100 parity especially
after ECB release today, that is not going to happen - huge smashing of expectations (and the market hates when expectations are broken / the unexpected occurs)
>Unironically, this is the top
SPX 4,605 --> 4,404 20 days -4.3%

I am debating for the last 2 hours to sell some of my QQQ. Currently I am on margin, up 99k this year and have a leverage of about 1.36. Usually this would be fine, but I feel a bit uneasy with the current market.
There is no way the Fed will just drop rates back into nothingness while inflation remains above 2%. Jerome stated this again and again and again. The market expects way too much. Paradoxically, a bad economy is now even seen as good as it would indicate rate cuts.

However the market keeps rising without anything to stop it. Let your winners go, right?

Sell. China is a communist country. It is getting worse. The whole place is not doing well and as a westerner you should not invest there. Hell, none of the Chinese invest in their stock market. They'd all buy property if they had the money (which they do not have anymore).

Chinese companies have no reliable auditing and these numbers can not be trusted.
The real issue is the political risk though. I agree that BABA is in good shape as a company. However, the CCP (CPC ackschually) can just confiscate and delete the company tomorrow. There is 0 rule of law in China. The party can do what it wants and if they deem a company as an entity with too much power they will just make it disappear.

The shares you buy are factually, and literally, just worth what the Chinese government wants it to be worth. This could be 400 today and 0 tomorrow. The risks are immense and not worth it.
>>56957128
They will slowly stagnate and do a poor Japan. The party has a tight grip on the country and can price assets at what they want. There can never be a crash in real estate, just eternal stagnation.
>>56957157
The demographics and debt problem can not be fixed. China could prevent a fall, but they choose not to. It would require deep and substantial reforms of their business environment, politics, economy, etc.

China will still be a powerful place in 20 years, make no mistake. However not as we know it and in much diminished form.

Feels like the political risk is priced in i mean they fined the company, canceled the largest IPO in history etc... As to reliable auditing I mean plenty of examples of fraudulent financial statements in the west as well, so I'd say that's not China specific. Maybe more common in Chink companies but BABA is a blue chip so not as worried compared to other companies, and I'm pretty sure they open the books to western auditors to say listed on NYSE.
The demographics problem is probably not fixable, although the debt problem is fixable they can print money and they're still a manufacturing hub with a positive trade balance and a lot of reserves.

I want to live there AND build a business if possible.
I also wouldn't mind living far from cities. in fact, I've been looking for property in a couple of touristic towns. but, from what I've seen, the farthest from the center of the town, the higher the probability of the area being shit or becoming shit in the future.
my main priorities are:
- size of land (at least 400sq.m., i.e., ~4k sq.ft.)
- legal status
- access to running water, sewerage and electricity
- location (inside the 3 towns I've been searching)

are these deep rural areas or something? how the fuck do you find anything at those prices? do you cold call owners and offer them low prices?

first I go through land brokers or private sellers. do not use companies whose primary business is selling houses, these people don't understand value. I wouldn't call them "deep" rural, they are usually within 20-30 minutes of a semi-major city. I mostly buy right off highways and Interstates. also typically the more you buy the cheaper it is.

>nobody can predict the market
there are things that predict the future with 100% accuracy, they just aren’t predictors of exact timing. for example, we are currently experiencing two indicators with perfect histories of predicting recessions in the near future: the yield curve being inverted and unemployment breaking above its 200 day moving average (or is it 20 week or something? I forget). both of these are guarantees of a recession.

a recession can happen while the curve is still inverted, it’s just rare. in this case, the fed did wait longer than normal to start raising rates, which means the curve didn’t invert until later, and likely means they won’t cut rates until later which would mean the curve wouldn’t uninvert until later, which might be after we’re already in a recession. the unemployment rate one though is 100% accurate and the recession usually starts almost immediately after it happens (happened in Q4 2023). Ben talks about it in this video along with a bunch of other indicators that, while technically “green” right now, are almost all elevated and many are at levels that they basically never reach unless a recession is imminent (many of them are like only 1 in 10 times since 1950 did they reach this level without it being a recession).

While yeah to me and those who grew up with the films this reboot will be a complete shat as an investor I hope it pulls in the next generation of little bastards like crack. the economy doesn’t move linearly. it’s more like the line from Hemingway where one guy says “how did you go bankrupt” and the other guy says “slowly, and then all at once” or something like that. in mid-2008 you still had fed people and the financial press talking about how things were looking up and we might avoid a recession entirely, literally like six weeks before the GREAT recession kek. the whole reason it’s hard to time is because it doesn’t happen in an orderly fashion. and, once again, I refer you to the unemployment rate breaking above that moving average (which it hadn’t done earlier this year which is why I wasn’t buying puts earlier this year).

Weed stocks don't trade on fundamentals because the fundamentals are shitty. The industry is headed to mass consolidation in to a few large companies in long term. Because of this the price action is all speculation. In other words it trades similarly to crypto. If you ask, 'why price go some way?', it's because money just so happens to be flowing that way at the moment. The long term thesis on any of these companies is the idea they will do fine until they get bought at a premium by another company, at which point you sell for a nice profit.

That wasn't a scam from a justice system perspective. Here in the leaf the police no longer have to waste their time on penny ante shit like small grow ops. Black market prices are lower but that also means there isn't much money in black market sales. In that sense legalization wasn't a terrible idea. The boomer fear was legalization would lead to mass uptake in marijuana use. That has not happened. The market growth from black to legal has been insignificant. There's no excess of high people walking the streets or driving under the influence (another fear they had).

You quite literally can't make money from these stocks, it doesn't matter what bullish news events happen. You can expect it to get shorted just like this if the DEA news does come out.
