Yes but if you get a mortgage it's functionally the same as renting, in that you have to pay a set amount each month. The money you could save paying a mortgage instead of paying outright cash could also be used for investing, which is a smart play provided the investment outpaces the interest on the mortgage and preferably the mortgage rate itself. Get in when the rates are low, lock those rates in and away you go.
