Why has crypto been so resilient in the face of overwhelmingly negative macro? What changed?

The crypto ecosystem is an off-vent for entropy, a direct result of volatility suppression in the trad-fi system. This is evident in the behavior of traders in both ecosystems as well, where active daytraders and market makers in tradfi effectively act to mitigate volatility through enhanced liquidity, whereas crypto traders are effectively agents of entropy propagating extreme cyclic price action.

its dawned on those in the traditional macro that there needs to be an asset that inflates forever...moreover this must be a "pure asset" and not just another debt instrument construction.
remember all balance sheets must equal 0 at end...and thus there needs to be an ever inflating asset on that side of the calculation

This is dumb anon. Completely ignores the supposed law of supply and demand. Even if the money in the system did not inflate, if the supply of w/e you are talking about increases, then the price should be going down to account for it, having an ever inflating asset causes a defeat in supply and demand, something that the current system seems to espouse

because the correlation to macro should never have existed in the first place

the current financial system is a "debt money" system. its just debt piled on more debt.
the treasury issues a bond (debt) that the federal reserve buys using a "note" (debt buying debt).
those notes become the "currency" of the system. there are no "assets" strictly speaking
traditionally that was gold's use....it was the counterbalance so if the debts (money) totalled 1T in old system then price of gold could be calculated as total debt/money divided by total gold oz held.

this system fell apart because using rocks are dumb in a largely digital system.
its dawning on wall street that we have ability to move back to this system but in an all digital format.

There's also significant cognitive dissonance wrt this, where people see relatively shitty macro data and see markets pumping, but important to remember that over the last 2 years real market return is still negative despite significant nominal returns. feel this explains lots of the vibecession or w/e term you want to use

>Why has crypto been so resilient in the face of overwhelmingly negative macro? What changed?
Because it's a cult now. Cult mentality don't care about macro, they aren't in it for any rational reason, in fact for many of them it's not even about profit anymore. It simply has become their whole personality to buy, buy, buy, buy, buy and then buy, no matter the circumstance, reinforced by members of the cult congratulating each other about it in a circlejerk.

Such mentality dies hard. It will take years, maybe even decades, for it to die down completely as people finally get disillusioned and the supply of new members drying up.

Who said anything about just retail? "Institutional" investors are equally capable of being caught in a cult mentality and buy for irrational reasons. Just look at Michael Saylor.

It's simply because the macro really isn't nearly as bad as the media/influencers are making it out to be. All of you are getting gaslit into believing it's super bad so you can panic sell. The rich will scoop up the cheapies and become richer, while you will become poorer. A tale as old as time, richies gaslighting poorfags (using not just words but manipulated data and narratives as well) and continuing to score win after win.

Think fifth dimensionally for a femtosecond:
1) Hyperbitcoinization eliminates parasitic economic transactions by enforcing positive sum gaming
2) Increasing BTC value pushes us closer to hyperbitcoinization realities
3) Increases in value of BTC translates to DIRECT increases in worldwide economic efficiency by granting greater economic influence to positive sum actors

BTC bootstraps itself being both safe haven, a politically, cryptographically, and financially fixed unit of account, and risk asset (literally sponge) this creates a positive feedback loop under expansitory regimes. As futures where BTC gains value outperform futures where it does not (by granting greater economic influence to positive sum actors), BTC will gain value in all realities which operate under fiat/debasement systems. Bitcoin is an inevitability.

Every market is being propped up because any market collapse anywhere in the West or China/Japan will cause literally everything else to collapse catastrophically, too. It's why we keep inexplicably avoiding a government shutdown, too, even though a fair appraisal of circumstances would say that one is way more likely now than times in the recent past when it actually did happen.

You are the midwit. The system crashed because it was a parasitic grift. Monetary expansion is always parasitic, for what is created when new money is created other than a claim on existing resources? Instead of returning to real money you filthy normie wagie debtslaves allowed yourselves to be let further and further down the path of fake and gay expansitory regimes that granted greater and greater economic control to the incompetent parasitic oligarchs. But thankfully this path is self-pruning, greater inefficiencies grants greater reward to creating solutions, the crash is well underway, bitcoin IS the deflationary crash
