there is definitely some value in having hardware you can play and learn with your hands with. But i have experienced buyers remorse with a lot of the gear i have purchased. You feel obligated to use a new expensive piece of gear, despite it not living up to your expectations. For synthesizers, there's almost nothing you can't do with plugin/VST synths. I have come to realize the listener doesn't give a shit if you used a juno-60 or a moog synth on your track. I have an avalon preamp i use sometimes, but most of the time i don't even bother turning it on and just use one of my many great virtual UA preamp instead.

That isn't actually bad compared to what gets regularly posted on /mu/. To your op, I think finishing is gonna help more than anything else. I coped for years til I finally started finishing regularly, absolute shit tracks, but I learned a rhythm. Also take the soberpill, at least when it comes to writing fleshing out ideas. Editing you can get away with here and there. I work with a ten year old laptop, and still don't need to upgrade, yet.
