That is not how new equity works after a bankruptcy. Shareholders almost always get hosed and if new equity is issued, it is almost always issued to creditors. Overstock liquidated all of BBBY's physical assets and the value hit zero during reorganization so it's even more unlikely that they'll give you anything for your old shares.

The financier selling into a squeeze would get the money back no matter what they put in. This would give an incentive to give a high cash amount per share. It would also see a lot of us not need to sell if the cash was high enough to cover our meager dreams.
