i cant believe im being asked this question in 2023 my god, but look, even if you have a ledger, your link are still on ethereum, a ledger just stores your private key and lets you interact with your wallet on ethereum without typing your private key on your computer.
you can also connect your ledger with metamask, and use metamask, with your ledger, basically your wallet keys are on your ledger, and metamask, checks your wallet on ethereims blockchain, and if you want to stake on chainlink, you use metamask, and metamask will send a tx request to your ledger, and you validate the transaction using an ok button on your ledger, so you interact with your wallet, without ever sending private keys to your computer, even an infected pc with malware cannot access your wallet, because you have to physically press a button on your ledger

no, just sell using dexes, sell into stable coins, and if you need to send to your bank account, just transfer the usdt or usdc or whatever stable u like to your cex, and then sell and transfer from the cex to your bank account, but keep your fiat as stable coins on your ledger, never transfer the full amount on a cex, if you want to transfer like 10k$ for example, keep 10k$ as stable on your ledger, and do it in 2 times, send 5k$ to your cex and transfer to your bank, only when you recieved on your bank the 5k, that you move to the next batch, of course im using 10k$ this applies to 100k 1M$ or 10M$, noobody just sends 5M$ to a cex for the first time, you need to be slow and steady

I bought a brand new chromebook and created a new wallet on it via metamask. I only use it to hold and occasionally trade on uniswap which I set to my home page, otherwise I disable the wifi and keep it closed. Is this safe enough or?

Want to be even more scared?

There are scripts that run invisibly in the background, notice when you copy a wallet link in your clipboard and REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER WALLET LINK, so you end up sending your crypto to a scammer.

Always check the wallet ids you copy-paste.

Honestly, you gotta pick your poison. If you use a CEX, you are the mercy of the exchange closing your account or preventing withdrawals for any reason. They're incentivized not to to not stain their reputation, but the potential is there.

If you use a desktop wallet, you're trusting the software to not get exploited unlike what happened to Atomic Wallet which was doing fine for so long until they got hit with some random attack and stole a bunch of users' crypto. Then you have to consider hardware wallets but there are closed source products like ledger that end up recording your IP and transactions (unless you use Metamask to sign transactions apparently, not sure on this) and recently they revealed that their hardware is exploitable to extract the private keys out of thanks to the reveal of their seedphrase sharding service.

I used to be 100% "not your keys, not your crypto" and quite frankly, I'm still am but I understand why someone would skip the hassle and leave the management to an exchange. Some people can't handle that responsibility.

But do note you're also getting screwed out of qualifying for early access to Link's community staking pool and you'll have to fight with other dogs for the general access.

thanks, will keep something digital and something tangible. Each encrypted. sherlock holmes clue crumbs.

>>56462340
thanks, but what is and what isn't a psyop? I lean to the side of if it's out there, it's part of, or somewhere along the way it's been influenced by, a psyop.

>>56462412
isn't metamask owned / controlled , at least partially, by JP Morgan? From that i can guess how impartial and decentralised and encrypted it actually is. Fair enough, they would have their motive, just doesn't match up with what they claim.

Had a SIM swap attack a month ago. The guy stole all my crypto within an hour. Coinbases system even verified his (my) identity using their Webcam photo holding an ID for instant withdrawal. So a complete stranger who probably looks nothing like me and doesn't have my ID was verified as me and stole all my money. Get your shit in a cold wallet.

Trezor and Ledger being hardware also limits them because hardware can't be modified after it's sold outside of software. If there's an exploit on the hardware end that can reach over the net, you're fucked.
I split the difference on Metamask being the safest bet as it apparently is just an application that responds to local data. Unless Metamask is caching all of these account phrases, you have nothing to worry about.
The OS side is another worry, though. I'd never set a wallet up on Windows or a phone. I did mine on TailsOS and put the password in a password vault, then copied and pasted it to MM on my devices. That way the phrase can't be keylogged.

I only have 100k Link which is nowhere near enough to actually make it.

All these Linklets with 10k stacks singing about 1k eoy are starting to piss me off with their propaganda. It was a joke and they are actually believing it and causing FOMO in newfags preventing the dump. Link is only going to $10 max. Right now I might make 500k before tax on that, but tax will take a big chunk out of that then inflation will fucking ruin me over the next decade.

Even if I chuck the 500K into a dividend stock that pays out well and I get 50k a year of it, it's not enough to beat inflation unless I basically live in poverty as a neet and keep my wagecuck job in the meantime so I don't have to sell any retirement Link. In 10 years that 50k a year will feel like 20k a year. You need a minimum of 5MM, but more likely 10MM to make it. The upper predictions for Link were about $80 but that was made during the bullrun of last year, and it assumed that the overall crypto market cap would still be expanding and BTC would go on to 1MM a Bitcoin and that we would be in a full blown crypto FOMO hype bubble when mainnet came out and we got our price singularity. All of that isn't going to happen.
