How could one write a python script that could scrape the archives of certain information I want? I want to scrape the archives by searching for filenames of images, finding every other time that image was posted with that same filename, cross referencing to find all other posts by that ID in the individual threads those images are posted on. to summarize, Archegos wanted to short GME but didn't want to write on paper that they were short GME, so they opened up a swap position instead with CS as the counterparty. CS, since it had essentially a long position with the swaps, hedged by opening a ton of shorts on GME. So if GME go down, they make money on the shorts, if it goes up, they make money on the swaps, basically a net zero position who's purpose is just to let their buddy Arch fake-short GME. Arch got assimilated by CS, which means CS now has both ends of the swaps, cancelling them out. Since the positive swaps are cancelled out that means their open short position is no longer hedged. UBS saw this and want to back out of the deal because they'd be getting all those shorts. If they do the shorts fall to the DTCC.

CS is now on the hook if the price goes up since Archegos can’t pay them as per the swap agreement. CS is simply left with an unhedged traditional short position on GME. If the short position is too big (as we suspect it is) they can’t close without blowing up themselves.

Now the disappointing part- with this in mind I don’t think the CS/Archegos swap expiry date has any real impact on us. Since one of the counter parties died, the swap died too, and now CS just has a normal short position they can’t close.

TLDR: Archegos and CS use swaps to make a bet against each other outside of the normal market. CS doesn’t want to take the other side of the bet, so they open a normal short position. Archegos dies and the swaps die too. Now CS is left with a normal short position.
