How many hours per week do you work on average?

I do regional work so I’m out like 5 whole days out of the week on average, though I’m looking to switch to local in the next 6 months bc my gf is preggers. It works out bc she rides with me all week to keep me company, but from what I’ve gathered all truckers have to sacrifice either money or time until they get 2 years experience before you can entertain offers for sweet gigs. Sure you can land some nice shit with 6-12 months exp but 2 years is the agreed upon period. Don’t wanna scare you away from the profession or anything, just giving you the facts.

Any tips for someone still in school. The youtube grift right now is to make videos about lay offs and how hard it is to get hired. Whats it actually like?

It's an okay job, but the bank I work for doesn't pay shit. I could be making 10-15K more if I went to another bank and I'm only here because of promises of future advancement made when I was hired. But the bank is struggling with the high interest rates and have put a freeze on all internal and external hiring. I've been looking for a new job since summer, but the job market is tough right now.

It's not easy to get hired right now, but the field isn't that great if you aren't passionate or have good connections. Hiring process is a bitch (expect 4-5 interview rounds) with the majority of them being behavioral. I got a job contributing to a open source project (but I got the job through literally doing that same thing for half a year for fun).

There is a shortage right now, so it can be a good gig, but the cons are you deal with egotistical women and doctors who think their shit doesn't stink because they work in healthcare. Also, fuck the general public AKA patients. I definitely feel underpaid as well, but wages have increased a lot over the past few years.

I took the job because I needed work that wouldn't have me fired to no obeying the covid and mask bullshit. I got my CDL-A with an automatic restriction for free on my municipality's dime. We're negotiating our next contract and we most likely will be getting $2 per hour wage increase, which is also bullshit, but I can't complain with how lax the work is overall. I'm seriously considering looking at my options with what I can get paid by strictly driving trucks. I don't know how well I'll handle driving for long periods daily, as I get tired from driving longer than an hour, but I believe my body will adjust to the commute over time.

IT. I had a high clearance and a friend contracting under AWS recommended me. Only thing I really had to do was learn a lot on the job and get the A+ cert within 6 months (that was the bare minimum requirement for them)
