Hi biz, I’m a stay at home mom and my husbands a mechanical engineer. I dropped out of college to marry him as a virgin and have a kid with him. When I met him I thought his career was good and I could be happy as a stay at home mom but now we want to move to Kansas City and we can’t afford a basic house… all the salaries online are super low like 60-90k.. I truly respect his profession and he’s an intelligent man but engineering is not a good career. I think it tops out at like 130k which is not a lot of money.. I can’t jump ship now since I have a family with him and I don’t want to work a menial job to not see my kid and barely be able to pay for day care. I’ve been brainstorming and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of room to grow in engineering so I thought law school part-time would be a good fit since he always said he could’ve been a lawyer and is high iq and has an excellent work ethic. We’re both from poor backgrounds so it sounds kind of crazy at first but I think he could pull it off so we can be comfortable years down the line. How can I gently and respectfully convey this idea to him, and is there alternatives to make more money? He said one day he wants to start an engineering firm but I see it as highly unlikely since we don’t have a lot of money laying around and again we’re from poorer families. I’m sure engineering was a great career 20 years ago but now it’s just barely above manager at McDonald’s to be honest and I don’t think he can support us like this… I just want a basic middle class life… what can he do

I’m not larping and honestly I’m an not a very attractive woman which is why I put myself in this situation and married the first man I met. he was a so called “incel” and I went with it anyway thinking it was dramatic. Now idk what to do that I understand reality and how much things cost, I’m depressed.

Law field is over saturated these days, and he'd have to take out a loan to pay for law school. He could probably make more money if you start posting your holes in this thread.

It’s just not enough these days when you consider mortgage and health insurance costs.. I get 5 years ago it was a lot but it barely cuts it these days especially when you’re trying to support people and interest rates are above 7%.. my husband makes 90k currently and is saving zero dollars a year for a 401k. I am not a spoiled woman, I grew up poor but my dad had a union job so all our insurances were free… my mom didn’t work, we lived in a townhouse and got groceries and clothes from wal mart. I’m fine doing the same but just as long as the bare necessities are in order. Maybe if you’re a single guy living in an apartment 130 is a lot but it’s really not for a family. And isn’t that the goal of life? I just want a similar life to what my mom got or slightly better, just seems so hard even though my dad didn’t even have a college degree and spent his 30s living with his mom working at Dominos. Now he owns an 800k house with a pool. Maybe those are high standards but they shouldn’t be. He was just a bus driver and isn’t even a boomer just Gen X.

Unironically just have him invest a bunch of is money into BTC, ETH, LINK, and watch out for new alts and he'll have way, way more money then you could ever imagine before he would have even graduated law school.

My dad also got a generous pension which he hasn’t redeemed yet. My husband has jack and will probably work until his 80’s. Idk, it just sounds wrong, he pays THOUSANDS into social security so his 60 year old parents can spend all day reading the wallstreet journal. Back in the 2000’s you would have needed to seriously fuck up to end up like this, now this is “success.”

Yeah, welcome to the US. All those "racist far right" people saying we need to slow down immigration and spending on social programs were saying that because this is how that ends.
130k is what you're going to get for a decent job (which is already some minority of the work force.) There's not a whole lot you can do to make that grow other than just sticking with it (pivoting to law would probably just make it worse.)

Your life will be even more fucked up if he goes to law school, you will go deeply into unsecured debt to pay for the tuition and by the time he graduates he'll be some low level associate somewhere starting over on the totem pole probably making less than he does now. If he can even get a job at all, which is a big if since he'll be going to some shitter law school.
There are no short cuts to owning a house in the US anymore. You simply get a 40 year mortgage and be a debt slave for the rest of your life. Welcome to jewish society. We tried to warn you.
