>BTC is valuable because it's scarcity

This doesn't make sense, why wouldn't someone make a coin with less than 21million supply? Wouldn't it be worth more?

>> No.56170783

>>56170720
Are you retarded. There could have been 210 million coins and the scarcity would be the same.

Holy fuck you're stupid. This is like saying something in measured in CM is longer than if you measured in inches because the number is higher. Its scarce because you can't create more, not because of whatever units you use.

And you would have 10x more units = the same value or market cap... Wtf are you trying to say.

Bitcoin also has utility (property of money) and real censorship resistance, so here's your answer

>> No.56170824

>>56170786
are you stupid? supply doesnt matter anyway, because coins can be divided into fractions. yea price number would be lower, but marketcap the same.

But yeah, you are right, the scarcity argument alone is bullshit, because you can build a sculpture of poo and there will be only 1 in existence, but still it is poo and no one will value it. (like NFTs)

It's the combination of subjective value the people see in btc, plus the limited supply that makes it great

>> No.56170833

yes so the price would be worth less

and? Where there is 21 million or 210 million makes no difference, your piece of the pie is the same and can't be diluted.

Except your poo sculpture isn't payment for the first and most secure decentralized, immutable, eternal, worldwide database, its also not fungible, portable, divisible, or have any of the other properties that give something utility as money.

Absolute scarcity is only one property of Bitcoin that makes it valueable, idiot.

>> No.56171051

>>56170916
Your logic would work if btc were MINED faster coz theres 210 instead of 21.
If the amount mined and circulating was the same, the scarcity would be the same CURRNTLY. Which is where the current price people willing to pay is derived from, current market conditions of supply and demand. Since all 21million aren’t distributed we don’t know the bottleneck price difference.

>> No.56171085

There are any number you want. If you want to call 1/210mil of the supply "1" unit then there are 210 million. Satoshi just decided initially that 1/21mil would be "1." Its just standardization of units that are easier to say than having to say 1/21million.

>> No.56171100

value is purely subjective. Scarcity and many other properties makes people value it a certain way. Also consider the codependency between price and liquidity. If there's a "Cantillionaire" that constantly dumps on you, the price will go down.
