The market should have gone down on Wednesday and Thursday, by a lot, but apparently the dump just waited until today (((probably))) due to witching bullshit. Poorman mindset.
Change your question to why does a dollar note have value at all? Then you have your answer as to why a stock has value. When you understand you will see that a stock has the potential to be a lot more value then a dollar note & also the potential to be completely worthless paper (just like the dollar note).

I don't. If I owned a 1/10,000 share of, say, a car, what value would that really have? It isn't enough of a share to ride in it or use it to any profitable end. The only real utility I could see for myself if is the car was sold wholesale I would be entitled to 1/10,000 of the receipts of that sale.
>>56116952
>Change your question to why does a dollar note have value at all?
I have asked that question and only come to mostly unsatisfactory answers. It seems it has value because other people want it. Other people want it because it has value.
If you believe asking fundamental questions about the nature of finance is 'poor man's mindset', I think you might actually be retarded.

also weed stocks like TLRY are looking like they're ready to completely collapse. The gains from today were completely mitigated by the overall market crash and the patterns just look weak overall. In the case of TLRY it's a falling three methods on the daily with riding volume on the weekly while price is being suppressed. Bearish signs in my opinion. Personally i'm shorting it, but if there's new that might pose a risk.

Start with market cap. Invest where the money is. There are around 45 or so stocks with a market cap above 200 billion which you should look into first. Check the earnings over a number of years, PE, PEG, net income, projections, all the FA shit. But instead of worrying about entry/exit, portfolio allocation, etc. It's easier to just buy SP 500 ETFs like VOO or SPY. And you'll outperform 95% of people here long term.

I am not saying I am opposed in any way to buying stocks. Why would I be? It can make you money and that is really what is important. It is just really hard for me to wrap my head around how it does so other than 'people want the stock [a thing of no real utility] more now than they did when you bought it.'

Stocks are kind of like a per company currency (the way currencies are per government) and companies issue them to compensate their leadership for good performance. They'll buy shares back (they used to issue dividends for this but it turns out that makes less sense) to reward shareholders when they have surplus profit. It's that last part that makes them valuable.

So essentially the idea is "give us money, maybe we'll give you more in the future." Yes it's very risky, if you don't like that you can buy bonds instead which is a hard contract/loan where they are *obligated* to pay you money over time unless they go bankrupt. In practice the yield on these is way lower though.

BTW, I was replying to an Anon in that deleted thread when it got rugged before I could submit. He said BOIL would go to I think between 98 and 114 by November. I was telling him my own estimate had been anywhere from 80 to 120. I do not have any "scientific" method for determining that. I think he's probably pretty on, I just tend to be conservative with my estimates and consider anything more to be nice bonus. I wonder what he thinks it will go *down* to before then, and at about what point?
